If the NCAA lifted its title-game requirements, Swofford said the ACC would consider having the top two teams in the league play for the ACC championship, in addition to maintaining divisions, but not requiring teams to play every opponent in their division.
Agreed. Instead of FSU and dukie playing this year it would have been Clemson and FSU re-match and that would have truly been the best two teams in the ACC
No offense, but Clemson wasn’t in the same league as FSU this year. If the rules for 2014 applied to the 2013 season, I think the title game matchup would be the same. At that point in the season, Duke and FSU were the best teams.
No one wants to see a rematch of that game, espeically Clemson.
Yes Clemson would have got annihilated again but it still would have been a re-match. Duke had two conference losses at the end of the seaso, while clemson had one and FSU had none.
Arizona State was #11 and lost to Stanford, again. Sat 10-3 and only fell to #14. One of their losses was to unranked ND. We would have been ranked higher than them having lost to the #1 team twice, and a top 10 USC. IMO.
Still probably would have been selected for the Orange Bowl. Only difference would have been a lower end of season AP ranking, and another loss on the record.
I peronslaly don’t like rematches. That crap a few years ago with Alabama and LSU in the big game was ridiculous. I get that on paper they were probably the best two in the country at that given time, but once a team beats you on the field, that should be it for that year. It would be like if SC and Clemson faced off in a bowl game. No one wants to see that. You’ve already played and the team that wins that game shouldnt’ have to prove it again.
I can see how maybe if the game was close down to the last few minutes of the game, the fans wanting a rematch, but Clemson wasn’t in that game once they got off the schoolbus. Clemson may have been the second best team in the ACC, but Duke earned that division.
I personally like the structure of the divisions and I think it works well right now. We’ll see in 2015 how things shake out if the ACC happens to go that route.
I think they should be done away with all together. Who watches that crap anyway?
Give us an 8 team playoff system and screw the conference CG’s. Just give the Conference trophy to the highest ranking team when its all done. You still get your extra game and money, its just not guaranteed every year to a certain conference if you suck and not in the top 8.

The ranking would have kept them out of a BCS game.
^ This is true though. BCS only considers top 15 teams eligible. The Orange Bowl would have gone down the crapper for Clemson and Dukie would have got it
If they were 12th in the BCS and then lost another game and got blown out they would be out of it. they might not be out the top 15 but the BCS would overlook them and take a smaller school like NIU or someone.

C’mon Ricky you are usually pretty on point but you really think Duke was better than Clemson last year?
