I hate pre-season polls, but since it is still pre-season lets have some fun
USC is #9 and will face 5 ranked teams
CU is #16 and will face 4 ranked teams
FSU is #1 and will face 2 ranked teams

Meaningless.
Carolina has a very suspect secondary and “new” D-line. O-line and LB are experienced, QB has some experience but shaky at times. RB and WR are solid. Not a #9 team IMO to start.
FSU, you have to beat them to dethrone them. Solid all the way around but I think somewhere along the way, someone gets them. NCSU has always been a thorn in their side. Okla St to start with is a solid team too. Clemson, not going there this time around.
CU, probably about right at this time. No one knows about the “new” kids other than Clemson fans. Lots of speculation on the offense and discounting the talent there. Defense is solid. Could be a team that surprises a lot of people if the offense finds a groove.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

You know he’s the same quarterback that whipped Clemson at Clemson… Two years ago… As the backup qb… And now has two more years experience with the same offense… Right?
Put down the orange colored glasses young one.
I’d worry about week 1 if I were Dabo and staff.

FSU will stumble . To much talent lost
USC is close to right. Same o line, proven qb. But unknown d line and dbs
CU lost so much. Unproven qb and a recieving group that lost big time. Until I see that offense at work, I would put them around 20.
Matt Millan said today that South Carolina is going to be disappointed at the end of the year. And then sang the praises of Dabo of course. I thinking he’s been drinking salty’s koolaid, lol.

He’s the same one that **** the bed at Mizzu last year right.
Thompson isn’t Shaw, SCs going to miss Shaw a lot more than Clemson misses Boyd. Funny that everyone talks about the loss of Boyd and Watkins as though they were everything. Whole lotta 4* talent behind them on the receiving corps. I mean you know Charone Peake was a higher ranked recruit than Sammy, injuries and immaturity to start have kept him back.
Not real worried about Jawja, I simply think Clemson is a better coached and more talented team at this point.

With the playoff starting this year preseason rankings are not meaningless. Need to be ranked high early to have a shot at making it in with only 1 loss.

Did he really just say that?
The record breaking QB and the #1 receiver will not be missed. Sometime you amaze me.
Sammy had almost 1500 yards. the #2 had around 800. #3 around 500
You are right…

why is the preseason AP poll meaningless, but the Star rating system validity for players’ skills? Isn’t that pretty much the same thing just on an idividual level and not a team level?
I have not read a think she has written. I don’t need anyone to help me with this.
You made the statement.
Boyd had more attempts than stoudt had receiving yards.
Watkins and bryant had more yards than the rest of the team combined…

The AP or any preseason poll is meaningless because there is no basis to rank the teams on. Last year is over, many players are gone, teams morph and are sometimes much better than years past or worse. How many preseason #1’s have finished #1? How many teams that weren’t in the top 10 or in AU’s case not even ranked have played in or won the NC? Why does the playoff committee not meet until week 4?
The * rating gives an indication of the talent level of players on a team. Some pan out, others don’t, some lower level players grow and become stars, gamble either way.

Funny, you sound just like her and Pete Fiutak. You ride the horses that got you there, doesn’t mean there aren’t other capable and talented stock in the stable.
I wouldn’t concern myself with Clemson were I you until November anyway. I’d be concerned with A&M if I were a Pecker, your secondary could get exposed early and often.

How many 4 & 5 star recruits fell off the face of the earth? I’m not validating the preseason polls, but the ranking systems are based on the same concept and you only seem to agree with one when it benefits your arguement.

That is how salty rolls
Isn’t Boyd the best QB to come out of the ACC in the last 30 years? 40 years? I don’t know, but I’d like someone to put up the stats. And you think the newbie QB can come in and just take over? Whatevs.
And you can go ahead and mark this down in your elementary school black and white composition notebook. When he retires, Sammy Watkins will be the best player to have EVER come out of Clemson. I know that’s saying a lot, but that boy has natural talent that cannot be taught. Clemson will miss him dearly. Sure others will come along and show flashes of greatness, but you won’t have another Sammy. Just like South Carolina will not have another Lattimore or Clowney. Those players are few and far in between.

I think i make a good point. And of course gamecock fans will get along with gamecock fans, same with tiger fans.
I also typically like Salty’s opinions and bluntness, i just see a flaw with that particular argument.

I never said Sammy wouldn’t be missed nor do I disagree with you that he will probably be one of the best to ever come out of the school. However, last year he was basically the only star to be counted on. Bryant was a decent receiver by the end of the year but he took a long time to come on. If Peake can get healthy along with Williams, Hopper, Kitt, Scott, Humphries, Seckinger, 4/5 RB’s etc, the offensive production can go up.
Stoudt wasn’t far behind Boyd in skill set or ability last season but it’s hard to unseat an incumbent starter like Boyd. Throw in Watson, who is reported to be light years ahead of Boyd at the same point in his skill set as a Freshman and the Tigers don’t need to worry about the QB position. Stoudt isn’t going to be expected to be more than a game manager by anyone. Distribute the ball to playmakers and don’t screw up.
Y’all seem to think that Clemson won’t even be able

Sure plenty of these highly touted players don’t pan out but more do than not. 2 and 3 * players also develop into stars because they grow up and benefit from good coaching, strength training and nutrition. The * rating is about potential and raw talent of undeveloped young men coming in nothing more. Clemson, Sakkerliner, Bama, UGA, Auburn, FSU and every other program in the nation have busts but by and large a majority of the highly recruited players pan out. It’s basically an early measuring stick for the programs.
Mike Bellamy and Michael Dyer are two that come to mind. Flashes of great play at times but off the field issues keep them from reaching their potential.
Both Clemson and Sakkerliner could have great seasons or both could end up being disappointments. They both have unknowns and perceived weaknesses heading into the season, it’s up to the coaches to vet those out and give them the schemes and training to win. It’s up to the players to go out and execute. The old Jimmy & Joe vs X’s and O’s adage. Doesn’t matter how good the game plan is if you don’t have the recruitment in place to execute most of the time.
