Thanks everyone! Glad to finally get the paint down. Shout out to Ben Rogers of Holy City Boatworks and his steady spray hand. That man can spray some AwlGrip…and wow what a spray gun!
As far as the paint booth…it worked very well, until about 10:30 when the wind picked up to about a steady 15…at one point blew the “door” open and got a little bit of dust in the last coat, but it should buff out…if not…it’s gonna be beauty marks!
Used some good filters in one end, and 3 box fans in the other end for ventilation. It was enough to create negative pressure and suck all of the walls and the roof IN…it worked really well in that regard. (Only two fans shown in this pic, we added another after checking airflow) We also wet the ground down well before painting in lieu of putting down plastic and creating static…
Gonna give it 4-5 days to cure and flip it over. Hope to lay color on the topside after next weekend…more to come! Can’t wait to get this thing rigged and wet!

great thread
thankyou LB
Called to check on the boat…it’s still green! Can’t wait to get it flipped over and see how much darker it looks sitting on the trailer…
Next task, rigging the console…wiring should be fun. Sure am glad to get the chance to wire it while it’s out of the boat…that should help a lot.
I have a six-gang switch panel that I got last year when I rewired the boat, just a cheap little plastic panel with 6 rocker switches. I’m interested in using something a little more robust and not off-the-shelf if anyone has a suggestion…

Buddy; do you any pics of original sw/gauge panel?? it may give us an idea to suggest any changes or modifications…

I don’t. When I got the boat it had 6 gauges in it, none of which worked. I gutted the console and put a piece of HDPE plastic in place and mounted a tach and fuel gauge and switch panel.
I now have a new console…so I get to start from scratch. I just need to get the boat flipped over so I can get to work on laying it out…gonna make templates of stuff and just try stuff out and see what works I reckon.

That’s good that you’ve got a blank slate , as you mentioned about a templet , I’d suggest tapeing piece of craft paper cut to contour of console and using cut outs of gauges ,sw’s, tach, ect, ect .that way you can move them around until you find design that works for you.
Be sure of clearance inside of console behind all above placements, I screwed up and cut hole for tach one time without thinking about steering control cable routing … My 2cts

I can’t claim all the responsibility for this one. The fiberglass work, primer, fill, paint, etc is all being directed by Ben Rogers of Holy City Boatworks. He went to AWLGrip school and can really lay that stuff down…I’m doing a LOT of the work to keep my costs down, but he’s the man with that paint gun. I’m just a jack-of-all, master-of-none mechanic who can do a little bit of everything!
Thanks though. I decided early on that I wasn’t going to cut any corners with this one. If you’re gonna do it…ain’t no sense in half-arseing it!

I don’t suppose any frosty beverages have been consumed during this tedious process…
This man has many talents… knife maker, gunsmith, fisherman… I wish I still had his energy… and talent.

Lots and lots of them. Every time I hit the store by the shop it’s the same thing, 6 or 8 gatorades and some blue cans. I’m amazed that people actually do work like this without drinking beer. No way in hell would I tolerate this kind of work…in the heat…without it.
Cheers! Tomorrow we drink some more and flip this thing over. Hopefully it’s not monsooning outside and I can get a good look at her upright and see how much darker the green is going to look…or not look.

Also have finalized the stereo system…and have some great news for the lower unit on my 90! I did some horse trading and have secured a new Atlas Micro Jacker 4" self-contained hydraulic jack plate. I’ll replace my manual one that weighs 16 pounds with this one and only gain 7 pounds! I also have done some bartering for 4 JL Audio 7.7" speakers and a 5 channel JL Audio amp. Certainly overkill, but the deal was incredible and I’m just a sucker for a good deal. Anything I own is fair game when it comes to dickering!

Got her flipped over yesterday! The color has definitely darkened up a bit and looks even darker sitting upright. Can’t wait to get the transom and hull sides wet-sanded and buffed…she’s gonna shine like a diamond!
Hatches and console will be primed first of next week, then we lay color! Should be fun!
