Best Clemson Team

I think he’s basically asking Clemson fans what’s more important, beat USC or consistently be in the national championship conversation.

He’s right, it does come across that some Clemson fans would sacrifice a shot at a national title just to beat USC. And no, that makes absolutely ZERO sense.

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

Basically, yeah.

RD, you’re pretty much making my point for me. You’re so hung up on the rivalry that you’ve completely missed what I was getting at. Proving you’re one of “those fans” that thinks beating USC is more important than competing for a national title.

And just off the top of my head, a short and quick list of more recognizable and noteworthy rivalries…
Army/Navy
Bama/Auburn
OSU/Michigan
Oklahoma/Texas
Ole Miss/Miss State
Yale/Harvard
Notre Dame/SoCal
Oregon/Oregon State
Michigan/Michigan State
Stanford/Cal
SoCal/Cal

Hell, I consider Georgia/Clemson a more recognizable and relevant rivalry than Clemson/USC.

But I digress, the point of everything I said revolved around trying to figure out why some Clemson fans, like you, feel their rivalry with USC is more relevant/more important than being in the national title picture on a consistent basis.

I’m all out of spoons, brother. You’re on your own from here.

Yo, archer. You must be a closet coot. I never said the rivalry was larger than being in the NC picture. I just said that the fan base has made the game a great rivalry, and both being nationally ranked makes it that much bigger. Being nationally recognized can be judged by game ratings. Who gives a S#$t about Army/Navy, Ole Miss/MSU, Yale Harvard, Stanford/Cal, USC/Cal, Oregon/Oregon State. Those games never have any NC implications.

I applaud your optimism that you think USC/Clemson is on par with or on the same national stage as Bama/Auburn, OSU/Michigan. I don’t disagree that USC isn’t very relevant on the national stage but if we’re being honest, it’s not like Clemson is always in the picture. Yes, Clemson is a far more talented team and much more relevant team than USC but again, Clemson, aside from this year and distant ancient history, isn’t a regular participant among those mentioned in national title contention year in and year out.

USC’s relevance has nothing to with national interested. The Clemson/USC rivalry was no bigger of a deal, nationally, when USC was #10 amd Clemson was #6 in 2013. One team in that rivalry isn’t what drives its relevance. The fact that the game rarely, if ever, has any bearing on the national stage is a huge contributing factor. Plus, the fact that neither program is considered a “storied program” by the prognosticators is also a contributing factor as to why no one, other than graduates of either school and/or people from SC, really cares about that rivalry.

That’s my point when I say I don’t understand why Clemson fans, given their team’s current status, worries themselves with talking smack to USC fans or taking the bait from them. Clemson’s record in this “rivalry” is beyond lopsided (67-42-4). The highest either team was ranked during their state championship game was in 2013 when Clemson was ranked #6 and USC was #10 (granted the rankings changed a little after that game). It’s like a high school senior taking a 6th grader’s milk money. Yeah, there’s something to brag about but again, if that’s what you value the most, beating USC, then may you live long and prosper among your 67 state championships. I for one would have higher aspirations.

Fan is short for fanatic which sometimes can turn into lunacy, but you cannot honestly believe that CU fans think it’s more important to beat Carolina than win the NC. As stated before, all the needling is just good rivalry fun. It’s nothing to get worked up about.

I just never found it entertaining or worth crowing about to beat up on my little brother. But I get it, Clemson fans have found a “comfort zone” in beating USC and they don’t want to step outside of that comfort zone by focusing on bigger and better goals. Granted you heard ZERO talk about USC and their fans when Clemson was preparing for Bama. So is it a coincidence that after the loss to Bama (bigger and better goals) a little ego stroking was needed so the Clemson fans came back to beat up on “little brother” some more…

But hey, is some people feel better about themselves after they brag about beating a one legged man in a butt kicking contest, party on.

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.
