Time for my annual inquiry about the choppers. anyone seen any yet at the nearshores or inshore or surf ??? trying to catch a big one this year, I missed my window last year

Haven’t seen any smalls yet.

unfavorable intel is still intel, thanks Dparker

Got a report of some bigger bluefish at the nearshore reefs out of Port Royal. So, they are on their way.

Normally catch them on a double drop rig with cut mullet or pinfish.

Surf or fish… I’m talking about big ones dude that are only here for a month or less.#6+ not the little suckers we catch all the time. A big bluefish is a formidable gamefish

This is one of my bigger ones. Caught it April 14 last year but that was after the freeze. I’d say go now.

Thats not that big of a blue you can catch those most the year. Definetly bigger than average though. Thats about the size i saw last week off edisto beach. It was basically sitting on the surface and i spooked it. I bet hrowing a surfacenlure and coveringbsome water you could find some.

That does look bigger… Maybe it’s the angle.

D is that this year

I think I’ve been banded, I can’t see pics:smiley:

When was this caught?

That fish was caught 4/08/2017. So if they come in close to shore this year, it’s time.

And for the record I’m just over 6’ tall and 265lbs…for scale, if you need it.

Thats a chomper for sure

You can salt them and dry em’ out and make a candle !

Magic water temp is 65 and it is only about 3 week run at best when they do come through. It just hit that temp in the last couple of days. Water temp at Isle of Palms pier this morning is 67 and Folly Pier is 69 according to the internet. Get out there and catch them up!
