Biggest Wolf spider I've seen

I call dookie on that

A few things , is there really a secret political section ? Im not really interested , politics like religion is more of a belief than anything else. With few exceptions two people can read the same article and come away with completely different ideas of what it said and meant. Im center right and my best friend in life voted Jesse Jackson for president. We got along by talking motorcycles and fishing most of the time. On the few occasions where politics were discussed we often found common ground but when we didn’t we respected each others opinion and agreed to disagree. Think you can do that with a stranger on the internet ? Maybe but doubtful

EF1, sorry to say but if you really are a moderator .your job is to help moderate conversations not start or be involved in arguments. When you took on that role anything in the past is gone and you need to let go. If you want to be involved in arguments and petty name calling you should ask someone to take you place and resign. Seriously, not trying to start anything but maybe you should re-evaluate what role you want to have here on this site.

Mr B, I dont have the time nor inclination right now to answer that question, i see youve been here 8 years, but youve only lately gotten involved so theres some things you may or may not be aware of.

Not to be a smarty, but this place was a wreck when I came back around. Its still a work in progress, but when I was asked to clean it up and get things back on track I clearly said a number of times that if I took a set of keys that there would be a lot of things Id do that would pizz people off, even the owners

See, it was so bad they let me drive.

So this is me driving.

Although I sincerely appreciate and understand your point of view, respectfully sir, Ill do it my way for now.

Your concerns are duly noted.

Perhaps some of the good participants here will attest to my stance, and some wont, but either way this is me attempting to keep the doors open and the lights on,literally.

Ive been here since the start of Charleston fishing, Changed my screen name after I moved to Beaufort but was on James Island and in Charleston since 1968. I was a member within a few months of it being formed ,I didnt want it sound as harsh as maybe as it came out but seriously some of all this is unwarranted.

What kind of scooter are you riding?

Wife’s in Georgia. She come out the camper this morning and there was one of these critters in front of a car and behind her car.
Anyone know what brand snake this is??

Where’s the dang dragonfly when you need one.

1st dookie guess

Eastern Ribbon Snake

Next

2nd dookie guess…

Eastern Garter Snake?

3rd if I dont step in it. Yellow rat snakes can have this coloration. So can garter snakes, so I can confidently say I m not sure.

Me and my 760 Pumpmaster called those dragonflies targets when I was comin up.

I’m fairly certain that it’s not a danger noodle?!!

Now that’s a danger noodle

“Hersheys Kisses”

“Hour glass”

and don’t step on the snek!

It looks like a striped deaden to me

B got it. Yellow rat, way more help than harm. They’ll take out more rat and squirrel nests than a well paid exterminator

Easily made pretty tame, almost as docile as a corn snake or kingsnake. Those species always get pass with me

Anybody here a southpaw? Need a cheap left handed holster for the varmint gun, I like that one OTC

My old lady will kill anything that moves with a shovel. She makes fun of me for letting all kinds of critters go,some kind of great white hunter she says.Got mad as hell at me for not killing these two and she couldn’t reach them.

oooooh, your wife, like mine can identify dangerous soon to be dead snakes from a great distance, that looks like a rare and elusive but extremely lethal “fir de lance gray mamba anaconda tree-master eyebrow viper”! They migrated here from Venezuela. They hide in the tree canopy and fall on your head an’ bite your eyes. So sorry. Dibs on your gun collection.

If my wife sees a garter snake outside she pronounces the death sentence. I saw one near the patio the other day, wasn’t going to say anything, but my visiting cousin said “hey
there’s a snake out there!” Wife turns around and says “WHAT!” "KILL THE SNAKE, QUICK!"I took a broom outside and swept him away. She has since forgotten about it,…I think?
She’ll pull out the binoculars and look at “suspicious” looking sticks laying on the ground.
“I’ve been watching that stick constantly for 10 minutes and I think it moved!”

Copperheads are a constant menace though. Kill a few each year. Both of my dogs have been bitten by copperheads.

What do you do for the dogs when they get bit by copperheads? I hunted with an old timer at bushy park that would send one of us into goose creek to get eggs for the dog if it got snakebit. We never knew what kind of snake bit the dogs.

I wish I had a cell phone camera back then.We had one old cur dog that was covered with fang scars. He would run them deer back and forth across bushy park road for us to shoot at.Good times for sure.Just a dirt road back then.

I’ve been told to give them Benadryl and I forget what else and they’ll be fine? My first episode(2019) with a copperhead bite happened just two days after I buried a BC/Aussie mix(died age 4 from cancer), so I was a bit cautious and went ahead and took my girl Border Collie to the Vet Spec Care on Montague Ave. She stayed the night and was treated with antivenin and antibiotics. Saw her when she got bit(screamed and jumped three+ feet when bit). Found and killed the snake so confirmed the species. Bit on the lower jaw, swelled up pretty bad and drooling. Next day brought home still swollen and first thing she wanted was to play tug of war with our BC boy. That was about $ 1800.00. Second event my BC boy is waiting for me at the back steps (2020) holding his left front leg up when I walk back in from further out in the yard w/ the other dog. Starts to swell, painful to touch. Not sure what kind of snake bit him, so we load up and travel from Walterboro to the Vet Spec Care on Montaque Ave. Get there, its closed empty dark. Middle of the night. End up going to Vet Spec Care in Summerville. Sit there until wee hours before they take him for treatment. Picked him back up late that afternoon, another $ 1800.00. I gave each victim Benadryl before we headed to the vet. Note: Veterinary Specialty Care is now owned by a national outfit, Blue Pearl. I noticed at the Mt Pleasant VSC office they seemed to have cut back a bunch on staff.

An acquaintance, family court judge, got bit on the hand by a juvenile copperhead while putting straw out around his shrubs. Spent the night in the ER with multiple antivenoms.

Copperheads being the least venomous of our pit vipers.

Cliff Notes:

Benadryl and Vet.
