Why make it mandatory? So things like this do not happen. Most big poker runs have a capts meeting. EVERY race from power boats to go carts has a drivers meeting that you have to be at. From what I see the big money tournaments have mandatory meetings as well.

Yes, they do take attendance. If you’re not there you don’t race or do the poker runs. Reason for cat’s meetings are to avoid this kinda crap. Like I said before…in this meeting it lasted 5 mins. These are the rules. Someone said 7pm they said no its 6pm then as the guy heading things up is speaking the chick they put on the committee boat was like…Im ready to blow this popsicle stand and get my drink on peace out. So of course last thing she heard was the 7pm being tossed around. If they have the tournament next year you best believe the meeting wi

They aren’t working this thing for free. There is a financial benefit to the marina and the surrounding businesses with tournaments like this. Those involved in the tournament have an obligation to run things in an organized and fair manner when they put something like this on.

A $200 tournament won’t have all the pomp and circumstance that a $2,000 tournament has. That is understandable. But it still should be run in a fair and organized manner the moment you start taking people’s money.

No disagreement there.

But don’t blame any of this on booze…keep that up and we won’t be able to partake at tournaments any more, lol.

And I’m sure that not every person involved benefited monetarily. Some people volunteer to help run stuff…as I have done a few times myself - FOR BOOZE!!!

I don’t know that anyone is blaming it on “the booze.” I see that as more of a nod to the unprofessional and unorganized manner in which things were run. The exchange of information left a lot to be desired, obviously.

Like I said, hopefully the organizers of this tournament are already assessing the situation and working on a resolution.

Look guy, if every capt was there every capt would know what was said and what the deal was. Now…if it was mandatory and run in professional manner then the people putting it on would know their place and wouldn’t be ducking for booze and more about the social aspect vs doing their (**() job.

Secondly. Again, if I am in the tournament, why would I care if someone didn’t hear of the weigh-in being extended to 7? If they are too lazy to come to the meeting or can’t come, that benefits those who do.

I agree with you on the “being professional” part. I have zero issues with what you are saying on that part.

But, convince me why I should give a crap if someone I am competing against doesn’t get wind of the weigh-in extension at the captain’s meeting? I could care less if it causes them confusion. If it was said at the meeting and the meeting takes precedence, then that’s their bad for putting money into the pot and not doing their due diligence of showing up to the meetings.

Indeed.

Reading the rules isn’t even mandatory. I’ve yet to witness a tournament given a written exam to see who has read them and who hasn’t.

“Well, golly gee! If I was supposed to read the rules, you should have made them mandatory!!!”

Wiping your butt after pooping isn’t mandatory either but it’s far more beneficial for you and everyone around you if you do it. Lol!!!

Could be more beneficial if you don’t, if you don’t like people!

So you go to the meeting. Someone suggest 7pm the guy says no its 6pm. Then you weigh your fish and are like hell yes. Then at 645 a guy shows up because the person on the committee boat told them they had till 7 to get there. But you were at the meeting and heard everyone say 6. Yet the person on the committee boat dips right after 7 is spoken and like word hitting the dock *****es lets fish. Not to mention. I was at the meeting. I was told 6pm. I pulled my lines

Ok, you got me. The booze is to blame. Not the organizers and their lack of organization and unprofessionalism.

D@MN YOU, BUD LIGHT AND CALL LIQUOR!!!

Carrying on…

Because you can't change the rules if you don't make sure everyone is aware the change, and if everyone is not required to be at the meeting where you change the rules, it's not fair to only benefit those who were able to make it there on that night. Again, make the Capt meeting mandatory and that solves any last minute rule change issues. It's not a matter of being lazy, it's a matter of some people have things called family, jobs, travel, etc and if it wasn't r

Only if you don’t consider wiping your butt mandatory.

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

It appears by this thread the weigh in time in the past was 7:00, at least last year. Not that that matters, but could have contributed to the confusion if they used some copy and paste from last years documents. It also appears it was a small tourney created with good intentions that grew faster than the organizers were ready for. Trying to do good and get bit for it. I don’t have any skin in it but I hope it works in a way that everyone can live with.

Sure you can. That is how the blue marlin tournament is run. You don't come to the captain's meeting is the same as you choosing not to read the rules. Want the updates? Go to the meeting.

Of course it’s fair. Did anyone get told they weren’t allowed to go to the captain’s meeting? Was it exclusive to a small group of invitees only?

Again, what is it that you think the captain’s meeting is for?

If you can’t make the meeting because you live out of town, then enter the tournament AT YOUR OWN RISK. Some times, people can send a rep there, or even make some friends and call them to see if there are any updates. If you make it mandatory then you might shut some people out.
