Bowl Predictions

So far the experts have Clemson vs. Michigan State in the Orange bowl… assuming Clemson wins out.

Personally I’d love to see them player Baylor or Texas A&M. I don’t think Michigan State would be a great game.

Discuss.

It changes week to week, bowl projections are crap until they are officially announced. How the heck is Stanford still in the top 10 and Oregon still ahead of Clemson? Garbage!!

You honestly think Clemson would beat Oregon? You have to be kidding.

Nope, not kidding. Clemson’s one loss is to arguably the best team in the country, although it was a blowout, and a very ugly one at that. Oregon’s one loss is to Stanford who just loss the second time this year to a previously unranked opponent. I do think Clemson could beat Oregon on a neutral field. Would they, not so sure.

Oregon is similar to Clemson. They beat the crap out of easy opponents and then lose twice a year to the decent teams they play. I think Clemson would give Oregon a game. 63 - 60 or something like that. Would be interesting to watch. I still think Alabama is a juggernaut but FSU is closing in.

I see some are still in love with Oregon’s offense. All it takes is a decent defense to slow them down. Same can be said of Clemson, so as much as it pains me I have to agree with CooperRiver Man here and say that it would be a fun game to watch. I don’t think it would be that high scoring though.

Bama and FSU is going to be a great game if it happens. Bama and Auburn is shaping up to be a good one too if Auburn comes to play in that one. If Bama’s offense plays like it did against Miss St. against any of these good teams, they are toast! It is going to be a fun end to the year.

I find it funny that all the Carolina fans are more concerned with Clemson’s Bowl opponent than they are with their shot at a Sugar Bowl. Are you people already resigned to a Gator, Cap One, Peach or Pizza Bowl birth. Have you already come to the conclusion that you’ll lose to Clemson and if you backdoor into the SECCG, you’re going to get smoked. Because either Auburn or Bama would beat the **** out of Carolina.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I agree with CRM and RWL, except I don;t think Clemson will play oregon anyway. That would mean they would have to beat USC and I don’t want to admit to that.

And I have said many times that if Baylor wins out, they will be in the Champ game. Not FSU (unless Bama loses). FSU has beaten 1 team still ranked(Clemson, which has beaten no team still in the top 25).
And OSU has the same resume as FSU. beat 1 team still in the top 25(Wisconsin, which has beaten no team still in the top 25)

Just saying.

Baylor. Will. Not. Jump. FSU. Maybe in the computer quotient but not in the human part.

Salty, You are right. Question is will the computer part outdo the human part.

Another question is how does a team with a resume of no current top 25 wins, stay in the top 25.

I posted this in another post but I thought it was relevant here also.
I had this same discussion with a huge OSU fan,

how many wins against currently ranked teams?

#1 Bama = 3. TAMU, Ole Miss and LSU
#2 FSU = 1. Clemson
#3 Baylor = 1. OK
#4 OSU = 1. Wisconsin
#5 Oregon = 1. UCLA

#7 CLemson = 0.
#12 USC = 2. UCF and Missou

I may have some teams playing each other that doesn’t work right with the BCS rules but, the way I see it:

BCS
FSU vs. Ohio State

Fiesta
Baylor vs. Bama

Sugar
Auburn vs. Stanford

Orange
Clemson vs. Fresno State

Rose
Oregon vs. Oklahoma State

This is all based on a OSU upset over Baylor this weekend, and an Auburn upset over Bama.

If Baylor wins, I put them in the BCS with FSU.

The way everyone in the top 15 has been playing this year, and how history always shows shakeups in the final weeks I think this is highly possible.

How is beating the team you may be possibly tied with considered backdoor? That's if Mizzou doesn't lose both of their remaining SEC games. If that happens Cocks win outright.

If that happens. Baylor would have 1 win over a current top 25 team.
AU would have 3. including the #1 team. And Bama would also have 3 wins. FSU - 1. OSU - 1. Clemson - 1(USC)

What’s your point?

Because losses to NON Top 25 teams far outweighs wins to top 25 teams.

I don’t really care or agree with Clemson’s ranking. The way the BCS is setup you really only have to be ranked higher than your closest conference competitor to edge out for the BCS bid. Clemson could be ranked 18th this year and still go to the Orange Bowl.

South Carolina either has to win the SECCG or be ranked SEC #2 to make a BCS bid. Usually that means a top 5 ranking.

I agree with this logic in terms of OSU, which is why if Baylor wins out I agree that they will edge past OSU. We’ll just have to see how it all plays out. Which is why I save most of my football watching coupons with the Mrs. until November.

If USC would have just taken care of business up in Knoxville you would have the East locked up, and probably sitting pretty for a possible Sugar Bowl bid. The UT loss falls on HBC shoulders.

Auburns 1 loss will be to a non top 25 team after this weekend. And if Bama somehow leaps an undefeated OSU with one loss to Auburn I would be surprised, not shocked, but surprised.

And why do you keep bringing Clemson’s top 25 record into this like it even matters? They could have ZERO top 25 wins and still be playing Fresno St in the Orange Bowl. Not like it’s anything worth bragging about, but Clemsons ranking really is meaningless at this point.

Now the records of AU, Bama, and OSU all are something to talk about, and I am very curious to see how it all shakes out.

Here are some interesting projections… p.s. Hey, I am just posting some fairly NEW info I found. Please do NOT shoot the messenger…lol, thanks! haha Also, I included the full website, if you’re interested??

Wed, Jan 1 1 pm ESPN
Outback Bowl
Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL
Big Ten No. 3 vs. SEC No. 3
Buy Outback Bowl tickets at TicketCity
PROJECTED MATCHUP Nebraska vs. South Carolina

Wisconsin on the table. UCF could end up here if the Orange grabs a No. 2 Big Ten team.

Fri, Jan 3 TBD ESPN
Discover Orange Bowl
Sun Life Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL
BCS vs. BCS (ACC champion if not in BCS championship)
Buy Orange Bowl tickets at TicketCity

Projected Matchup: Clemson vs. UCF

Top Three Other Options: 1) Florida State, 2) Duke, 3) Missouri

Why? Assuming Florida State is in the BCS championship, the Orange might want to go bigger than Clemson in there’s a second SEC team or Big Ten squad available. However, Clemson is the logical choice, and while others might be selling the idea of an Auburn or Texas A&M to go here, UCF would put butts in the seats.

Mon, Jan 6 8:30 pm ESPN
VIZIO BCS National Championship
Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA
BCS No 1 vs. BCS No 2
Buy BCS National Championship tickets at TicketCity

Projected Matchup: Alabama vs. Florida State

Top Three Other Options: 1) Ohio State, 2) Baylor, 3) Missouri

Why? It’s not like Alabama and Florida State are showing any signs of stopping or slowing down. They’re on a collision course to come up with a whale of a BCS championship, but a slip by either one and Ohio State is there ready to pounce. Missouri, Auburn and South Carolina are all in the hunt with a win in the SEC championship and a ton of help.

Because you are counting on an SEC West team to put you there. Something that I’m sure SOS was completely opposed to just last season and made no bones about being opposed to earlier this season. True, their one loss is to SC but would is the only loss in the division. Whereas Mizzou beat UGA and UT and has to lose to Ole Miss or T A&M. Backdoor, it is what it is.

Be it AU or Bama, the SEC East team is going to get beaten like a drum.

Why even bother playing teams outside of your division if it’s going to be about divisional records?
