Edisto Marina Closing ?

Man, thank for the #

From the Edisto Marina Facebook page which is obviously still owned by the previous management:

As previously posted the non renewal of our family’s lease of the marina premises was a decision by others not by us. Over the past 12 years we have taken great value and pride in delivering the Governors Cup event to the Edisto community. After 26 years of an uninterrupted annual event because of the above decision and multiple attempts to negotiate an agreement for the event being denied there will be no Edisto Marina Governor’s Cup.

That’s quite a spin on what actually happened.

Although I did suspect it was biased, I didn’t really know. I was just passing along the info.

Amazing to me that the governor's cup contract doesn't include some clause to the effect of the signee actually being able to put on a fishing tournament.

Went there the other day and checked it out. Things are looking really nice. Love the new logo.

How do you fit 400 gallons of diesel in a 350 gallon tank?..Purchase fuel from the “OLD” Edisto Marina. Thank goodness that problem was fixed with new management.

That’s easy RAD! Put the extra 50 gallons down a rod holder:wink:

What actually happened was the “old” management at Edisto Marina didn’t maintain the calibration on their fuel pumps. They were pumping less than the display said they were. On one occasion, I pumped 535 gallons of diesel (according to the pump display) into my empty aft tank, which holds 490 gallons. Go figure.

It’s a heck of a coincidence that the problem worsened around the time of Governor’s Cup.

What is amazing (BUT NOT A SURPRISE) is that the SCDNR Governors Cup Board of Directors failed to recognize the room packed full of Edisto citizens, Government Officials, and business owners at their last meeting.

The SCDNR Governors’ Cup Board has the discretion, and power to correct this but failed to act…

I wonder what the sponsors who shelled out the cash to support this event will think when they find out they were informed their contribution would gain them exposure at five(5) events now only gets them exposure at four (4).

Hopefully The Governors Cup Board will come to their senses and do something about this but it doesnt look like there is any chance of that happening. As y’all know Edisto is a very small town and for a while Governors Cup has been if not the busiest at least one of the top two or three weeks every year. Not having it will definitely hurt the food, beverage and rental industries amount others. As far as the marina and new ownership goes as others have already said we are very lucky to have Brian and Becca running it. Even though it doesn’t look like Governors Cup will take place this year things up there will be and already have been much improved. One major improvement will be the fact that the marina is now going to be more than a t-shirt shop and part time bar that happens to be on the water and sells fuel. From what i understand the new management is planning on having other smaller tournaments open to the general fishing public. As someone that lives down here I will gladly trade missing Governors Cup this one year for all of the improvements that we have already seen and will continue to see at the marina.

^^^^^^^Agreed

The website says hours for the ship store are 8AM to 5PM? I hope that’s a seasonal thing and will be extended on both ends starting this time of year. Otherwise, that’s a joke.

What time do marinas in your area open? I’m pretty sure Bohicket and St. John’s open at 8. None of them open early enough to service the offshore crowd.

Wanting to fish the Edisto area this season made me take special
interest in the info being told about the marina. Especially disturbed
about the marina hours, so I e-mailed marina about store hours and reply was ,that they would be open before dawn and around 3am for the offshore guys/gals… Time will tell!!!:question::question:

Sorry to weigh in late, but the Governor’s Cup Advisory Committee acted properly in respect to the Town of Edisto Beach’s request to host a leg of the SC Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series.

The SCGCBS rules state that an entity applying to host a Gov’s Cup tournament MUST have successfully held a tournament prior to application. The fact that Edisto has had Gov’s Cup events for years does not enter into the equation for it is the owners/operators/applicants who must have prior tournament experience, not the marina itself. The Town of Edisto recognizes this and will hold a tournament this year in order to qualify to APPLY in the future. If another entity applies prior to the Town of Edisto, and has held a qualifying event in the the past, then that other entity could be awarded the right to a leg of the Governor’s Cup.

Currently the Governor’s Cup Series is capped at 5 events annually.

No Marina the that has held a Governor’s Cup previously has ever changed ownership between years?
