Whats the word on the Pier at Edisto? Saw a few threads in here about it than nothing more since.
The owners of the pavilion still have plans to build the pier but they are still trying to work everything out with the town. As of now one of the main issues that is holding things up is parking.

Yeah, there is none.
Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…

Thats not exactley ture there are several different options that the town/pavilion owners are trying to work out. One of the potions is renting parking at the pig/jungle shack. They would also have to stop letting people using their lot as beach parking.
E 82,
Will it happen this off season??

I have heard exactly what E82 posted. the lot to the left of pavilion facing the ocean used to extend further toward the State Park. The parking spaces can still be seen. if there is not enough parking at pavilion how is there going to be enough at marina, sunset grille(if it ever reopens) and for whatever will be located on the old Bell property? “Build it(the pier) and they will come but have no place to park”!!!
That pier was a lot of fun when I was a kid.

DING DING DING Since the town passed the new parking code which effectivley stoped the pier the marina doesnt have enough parking to meet town requirements. Guess the town didnt think that one through. Now if the parking on one way street behind the maina parking lot is set a aide for only marina parking they will be up to code.
Texusc i saw you mentioned the pier use to be fun when you were a kid. My uncle actually has a rusted up road sign that says edisto beach fishing pier 150 Miles.
Brad I really dont know when they will be able to start the pier. I wouldnt be shocked if it started this off season but on the other hand I wouldnt be suprised if there still isnt a pier in 5 years.
Screw the pier!
How about build a new grocery store, that place sucks. If I had the money I’d buy that whole parcel, build a new grocery store, knock the old one down and put a new restaurant and a few shops in.
Then if the guy who owns the pier wanted too, he could rent some of my parking spaces.
Just think of all the parking you would have then under the new grocery store because to build a new one you would have to elevate it.

The pig may suck to shop at during the summer, but the off season is great. One more thing, those folks that manage and work there are some very good people. David is the best manager and person I know. A lady in front of me forgot her purse so David paid for her groceries and told her to just come back when she gets it. You will not find that customer service in Hollywood, or Charleston.

What about hauling in lots of dirt just like Mr. Steedley did where Buck’s Pizza is at. Oh, that might flood the State Park:wink:

I love the Pig. It’s dirty, but I love it. It’s just part of Edisto.

I like the Pig. Sure it can get crowded, but even a larger store in this town would be crowded in the summer. David is a great guy he is always helping people.
Ditto on the Pig. It is an Edisto landmark and David is a great guy. Once took my daughter and me to my house after my golf cart broke down at the Pig. However, I would not be surprised to see another grocery store being built further inland in the next 5 years. If you ride around on the island or ride the creeks you will see many more houses than there were 10 years ago.
Many years ago there was a bowling alley in the area where the Pig and the BP station are located. I am sure some of the elder Edistoers can tell you about it.
Agreed on the people, they are very nice and helpful and I don’t blame them, it’s not their fault, the Pig is just very old and outdated. During the summer when all the terrorists are in town, they are always running out of things like the other day I went for chicken and all they had left were necks. I love Edisto and how laid back and simple it is, but everyone who lives here year round deserves a decent place to get food, why suffer just for the sake of not wanting things to change? I use the new Publix near Red Top.
Was the bowling alley in the same building that they had the big dances? I think it burned down. Alos had a string of nasty motel rooms in the same area. I’m moving to Edisto in the next 2-3 months. Looking forward to being Edislow.

You are rude, and I live in Edisto.
Spoken like a true Edistonian:sunglasses:
2 things…(of course this is my opinion and we all know about opinions!)
- Edisto doesn’t need a pier, who’s going to use it enough to justify the cost?
- The Pig is awesome. My kids love to go on our daily trip to the Pig to shop and see the nice folks working there. It’s the only store I’ve ever been in where the manager (David) tells me to hold on one minute, takes money out of his own pocket and goes and buys candy to give it to my kids. You can’t replace that kind of service, and the quaintness of the place makes it feel like the way grocery stores were when i was a kid. I think a new “fancy” grocery store would take the fun out of grocery shopping at Edisto.
Tight lines.
