Edisto Pier

.

  1. Edisto doesn’t need a pier, who’s going to use it enough to justify the cost?

Why do you say they don’t need a pier?
Why do you care how much it costs? It’s not your investment.

“Was the bowling alley in the same building that they had the big dances? I think it burned down. Alos had a string of nasty motel rooms in the same area. I’m moving to Edisto in the next 2-3 months. Looking forward to being Edislow”

Jrock, i believe the bowling alley was in that general location. You are right about the hotel. I think it was called the Edisto Hotel and in one end of it there was bar and my father talks about going there probably in the 50’s for the parties and dances. My older brother actually went to the lounge/bar there in the 70s while I was at Collins Pavilion and everybody loved the pier back then.

I was there in the 60’s and 70’s big Orangeburg and Walterboro crowd.

I think the pier will be used year-round, especially by the State Park vacationers. Don’t have to worry about parking, just walk over and fish. Even though I have a boat, I will still use it; especially when the spots are migrating.

I grew up just the road from Edisto and my first recollections of Edisto is having picnics in the shade of the old pier when I was a toddler.Later on I saw a guy catch 2 sharks the same day from the pier, one about 7 ft and the other even larger.I have a picture of me sitting on the beached sharks hidden away in some drawer.

People either love Edisto or dislike it. For those of us who love it, I am too young to remember the good ole days. At 40 years of age now, I remember 25 to 30 years back playing Tarzan swinging on the vines off of Jungle Road and playing video games in the arcade at the pavilion trying to keep the quarters from dropping and going through the cracks in the wooden floor and falling to the beach below. The pier will be a good thing and help bring more family fun to Edisto.

ditto EB. just a little older than you and I remember those nights too hoping not to run out of quarters at the pavilion. remember those orange chairs or benches in there? those were good days and so is every minute I spend at Edisto these days.

I take offense at being called a terrorist.
I get down to Edisto once, sometimes twice a year.
I do not litter, drive my car too fast nor leave my beach front lights on at night. All of the people who stay in the house around us are quite the same way.
While I would love to live there year round it is just not in the cards to do so.
I could easily spend a couple of thousand somewhere else each year but I really like Edisto’s style. Glad I have not met you.
Have a nice day Billder

I have spent most of my life fishing.
The rest has been wasted.

Try not to get to upset ruvidu. Thats just the way some of the residents are down here. They would like nothing better than to blow up the causway and never allow another person in. Some of us understand the economic impact the people who visit this great Town have. Not to mention getting to meet all of you nice people. Please keep coming to paradise and hope to meet you someday.

ditto what striker said. Ruvidu, I am glad you get to enjoy Edisto like I have for so many years. I am lucky enough to own a place there and use Edisto as my stress relief. Edisto has always been a great place for people to vacation. If people did not vacation there, there probably would not be one restaurant on the island that could stay in business. Keep coming to Edisto and enjoy yourself.

Sorry to generalize, it was meant as a joke, you appear to be “one of the good ones” (although a bit sensitive). The people who vacation at Edisto have traditionally been good old native South Carolinians who actually add to the charm of Edisto and I love seeing them come down year after year.

The pier would be a good thing for Edisto Beach. The majority of people visiting the pier would probably walk down the beach to it. The only time parking is an issue on this end of the beach is during July when the State Park fills and closes its gates, then parking becomes a problem. Other than that, we have no parking problem.

I understand what billder is saying. My wife’s family has a house on Lybrand St. and some people fly up and down that St. We have a lot of small chidren running around and we love the fact that Edisto is a great place for families to get out of the fast pace World and slow it down for what is really important.

We too call them terrorist but because we think thay are yankees that blow in and blow out and do not really appricate how we enjoy how slow and undeveloped Edisto is.

I think billder and most residence do not mind anyone coming to enjoy Edisto but just want them to respect how special of a place it is. There are not many places left that have a real Southen feel to it anymore (My god look @ Myrtle Beach) and would like it to stay that way.
The Edisto pier was gone before we stared going there but we use to have alot of fun a the Garden City pier and think it could be fun for Edisto.

Hey Bilder,
I try to be a “good one”. All of the folks that come down when we do try as well. Maybe we do get a little excited trying to get it all in in one week. I hope you locals never loose sight of what you have there.
BTW I am so sensitive I am going to let you buy me a beer when I get back down there. Trying for the week after Christmas and New Years right now. Love how the locals beat the pots and pans together at midnight rather that shoot off a bunch of messy fireworks.
Wish all of you tight lines.

My neighbor, a Pennsylvania transplant and one of the “good ones”, shoots off a homeade cannon for new years; no mess but you can hear it echo across the marsh.

I would be glad to buy you a beer.

To me, anyone from SC, NC, or GA is not a terrorist…I mean tourist, but when you’re talking Ohio or the likes…definitely.

Bucks Pizza!!!
How did you get a screen name like that? I love that place.:smiley:

Wow when I started this post I never expected such a Hot debate over the Pig and pier. heh… I was just asking. I love Edisto and will fish there with or without the pier it just makes it easier to fish in the day when the swimmers got the beach covered.

As for the Pig… The people that work there are great and they allways have what I need at a reasonable price.(even in tourist season) so if it aint broke dont fix it.

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit around with his buddys drinking on the beach for hours !! ><((((º> J
