Thoughts frpm an old local:
-
Originally the bowling alley was where the Pig and Horizon is, and the dance pavilion was where the pavilion is now.
-
Later, the bowling alley was gone, and the dance pavilion was where the Horizon was and the motel was where the Pig is.
-
At that time (1963) we could drive at 14, and drink all the pabst blue ribbons we could buy and dance to the Swinging Medallion Band among others. (all owned by the Collins Family - great people)
-
The pier is a good idea if parking is possible. It gives the kids at Edisto and the older folks a place to fish other than the side of the roads. Just because you don’t have a boat, like most of us, doesn’t mean you don’t like to fish.
-
I am the Uncle that has the rusty sign advertising fishing at Edisto - 200 miles. It was taken off a kudzu covered tree on I-26. it says “They are always biting.”

Regarding the Pig…if a hurricaine takes it away, they own the building where Ace hardware is, and would rebuild there with somewhat less height restrictions, and very lax Colleton County building regulations. The staff at the Pig, including David, are first rate. As soon as the tourists leave, the havoc leaves. By the way IF THEY CALL IT TOURIST SEASON’ WHY CAN’T WE SHOOT THEM?
