Edisto sat .. yeeehaw!!!

Man, Im jacked up now. May get to go out trolling w/ a friend of a friend while Im there. He’s been catching them from what I’ve heard. Hopefully it’ll work out. One of the guys going with me decided to take his boat. 16 foot skiff. May want to catch a shark. Would it be best to put in and fish the sound or put in on the dawhoo and go towards the ocean? Oh, and will that captain ron dude let you launch at his house or do you have to pay him to take you out? Thanks for the help. Cant wait to get there.

Ron does not let people launch at his landing anymore without permission. You may be able to get his number at the Edistonian.

I called him last year and talked to his wife. She said my 19ft skiff was to big. I wanted to say “too big”. Lady. This is the fing ocean. But I bit my tounge and said we gonna get a smaller boat on the return trip but last year they acted like they would let you launch under their terms.

Capt. Ron definitely does not let you go out on his place without permission. I suffered his wrath last weekend, so I can attest to his policy.

We were told by a buddy that lives at Edisto to call Ron to see about using the ramp, and that it would be no big deal. We called the night before and left him a message. We called again the next morning and left him another message. We drove over there to see if we could use the ramp. Nobody was home, but the gate was open. We drove in to see if we could talk to Capt. Ron, but could find him nowhere. We did see some other guys putting in there. We asked them about it, and they indicated that it was no big deal, just to leave $10 for him at the Edistonian. After that conversation, we figured that it must not be a problem (bad assumption on our part, for which we take full blame). We put in and went around the bend and there was Capt. Ron and crew coming at us. The short version is that he chewed us up and spit us out for using him ramp without his permission…it didn’t matter what someone else told us. We told him we would immediately leave and that we were very sorry. We went back to the ramp, took the boat out, apologized again, and left immediately.

We made assumptions that we should not have, and we were at fault in the situation.

Lesson for the day: Don’t use Ron’s ramp without his personal permission.

Is that the ramp on Frampton Creek?

yes. Back in the old days you just put your boat in,shoved a few bucks in the mailbox, and went fishing. Now capt ron is king of the creek, and I guess he has the right. Its his ramp. Of course whoever has nuts enough to to do it can come on from the ocean. But the size boat needed to get through the shallow breakers nad the size needed for the ocean doesnt quite match up.

Do the Mead’s still own the landing or was it sold to Capt Ron, last time we were down kayaking Capt Ron was running charters out of the landing but we were told it still belonged to the Mead’s.

The sign on the dock says not to go on the dock without Ron’s permission.

Perhaps Ron doesn’t own it, but rather rents it from the Meads? Just a thought. By renting, Ron would legally be in possession of the property and able to treat it as his own.

That’s how it happened. We were at fault, but Capt Ron sure could have been a little nicer about it. We were extremely nice to him and his wife/girlfriend.

One thing I found very interesting was a comment she made. She told us that they were trying to “control the traffic in the creek”…which I found to be a bit presumptuous, since they don’t own the darn creek.

While the creek does not seem to be anything special, that experience and her comment about controlling the traffic just make me want to find an alternate way to get into that creek just so I can encounter Ron or his girlfriend and tell him/her that I got in there without their stinking boat ramp. In fact, maybe I’ll just go drop anchor out in the creek by their place and just hang out there, sipping a cold beverage of choice, just to make my point. :sunglasses::smiley:

What is the name of the creek thier ramp is on? I dealt with Ron myself last year and would like to fish that creek, and take my family back to the place he took us for shells less the 15.00 per head![:0]

I believe it’s Frampton Inlet - not sure about the creek name. Townsend, maybe?

It’s the first inlet north of Jeremy Cay, if that helps any.

Frampton Inlet it is.

used to fish Framptons back in the 70s and 80s for flounder and spots. you could troll very slowly for flounder w/ mud minnows especially in early May; there used to be alot of spots in the surf back then. have not been there in years and enjoyed seeing the posts about the ramp. I think we paid a couple of bucks to put in and off to the mouth of the inlet where you could always catch a bucket full of crabs. oh, the good ole days. I also thought the Meades still owned that place. good to see posts about this place as well as others. I am new to the forum and appreciate all the comments and fishing news. Is anybody catching any spanish out by A-can?

Mr. and Mrs. Meade were two of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet, and seemed to enjoy the people who would put in Frampton Creek using their ramp. Red Meade was the groundskeeper/maintenance chief at The Citadel for many years, and a really nice guy after you got to know him. “Capt” Ron, unfortunately, is only a member of The Lucky Sperm Club in that I believe, as Mrs. Meade’s nephew, he inherited whatever he feels he owns at Frampton - too bad he didn’t inherit some manners…

I rememeber the old man. If he was there he’d shoot the bull with for a while no matter if you were coming or going. On vacation it was an everyday thing for us to put in there and sein, throw the cast net, or fish in the creek. No problem with him. I can understand though how busy it could be in the summertime and some jerk would slip and fall on your oyster shell ramp and want sue you. I wonder is it still oyster shells? Anyhow they dont have to make it sound like they do. They could say hey. We dont want 50 trucks and trailers in our yard so we cut it off at five a day but not say we like to limit the boat traffic in the creeks because really its not there’s to control. They control the boatramp and the access at that boatramp.

Catfish

haha people everywhere think they own the water. thats all ill say on that.

Edisto9871 - this is Jared Burgess that sold you the scout. I have since lost you number and need to get in touch with you. give me a call when you get a chance 221-8669. appreciate it, good fishin

Ron does NOT own the landing. He does not even own property on the creek. He does have rights to the boat landing somehow through red meade and family. You can get into that inlet from the outside at low tide you just have to be careful and enter from the edisto side. I was down there a few weeks ago fishing with my family in the first turn of the creek and he started talking sh#t about us to his customers as he rode by calling us dumba$$es because we didn’t know how to fish. Right about the time he was saying this I pulled a three pound flounder out from underneath his boat. Ha-Ha. Shut him up real quick. He is a real a##hole, I encourage anyone who wants to to go fish in “his” inlet and come from the outside so there isn’t anything he can do about it. There is lots of good fishing there and maybe one day there will be a more public access. I’ve seen him try to tell people to leave and run right across their lines. This is unacceptable behavior. If anybody has a right to that inlet it is people who actually PAY TAXES in South Carolina.:imp:
