Headed to Beaufort aug.1 for a week. The kids are wanting to catch some sharks. Have a place rented on lady island on the inner coastal water way. Any advice would be apreciated. bait,spots,etc
Thanks [Team Hawaii}
Parrott creek on the east bank near intersection of coosaw. Small creekmouths on any tide but i prefer low outgoing. Best bait is half a crab. Shrimp or cut bait works. A surefire trick is to find wildlifesc and fish near him…guys a shark magnet.
If you want to improve your odds, stop by Beaufort Boat and Dock and pick up a block of chum ( $6.00 or so ) and the chum basket ( around $12.00 ) I tie this off the back 3 or 4 inches below the top of the basket. Free line a finger mullet 5 to 8 feet from the boat on one rod,cast a few others on the bottom and one on a float. Low outgoing seems to work the best, 10 to 18 feet of water in a feeder creek leading to bigger water. If you cant catch them, let me know and Ill show you a spot ( Battery Creek ) where you can catch all the black tips you want ( 2 ft) and bonnet heads as big as they get.
^^ What he said. Sharks are about everywhere now, it’s hard not to catch some. Save the $12 for the chum basket and just use a mesh bag like what fruit, onions or potatoes come in. Chunk up some bigger pieces and throw them in occasionally. Bottom fish for whiting at the same time and use them for live bait.

As an alternative approach, try to target tarpon. Live mullet, pinfish or menhaden, whatever. You will hook 15 sharks to 1 tarpon. I’m speaking about inshore fishing, tarpon are showing up in good numbers now.
I was just up from where you’ll be on Coosaw river today. Had the kids and grand-kids. Caught 20 or more little black tips on a mix of cut mullet, squid, and shrimp. Creeks are full of little ones right now, almost a nuisance. I had a couple of double rigs and the rest single hook rigs. At dead low I was able to get a good few small shrimp and loads (really thick) finger mullet in the cast net. As the tide came in we caught 4 trout on shrimp under a cork, 11 whitening on the bottom and one over the limit spot tail on a live mullet under a cork.
There is a nice sand bar to hang out with the kids just on the other side from brickyard and just past jack island. If you want head out to coosaw and hang a right towards the big water careful entering at low tide and follow up Morgan creek and make the kids day if the monkeys are out. Google Earth it and look for the route up the creek to the dock. If you go you’ll see the high bank and dock. Pretty neat. Also at the first intersection on that creek we caught a few nice Bonnet Heads.
Just float on down in front of HHI they have had two closed beaches this week do to sharks. Port Royal Sound is the largest breeding ground for tiger sharks. HELLO OF YOU TUBERS AND WAKE BOARDERS. #128121;#128122;#128584;
Just got off of google earth and looking at some charts getting coordinates. Looks like i’m gonna have to find somewhere on the water to get gas. Any suggestions for gas? Got all coordinates in the chart plotter now ready for some fishing. Thanks again . {Team Hawaii}
