Flat @ Edisto?

Does Edisto have the flats like Charleston where you see the reds congregate?

There are NO FISH in Edisto. Lots in Charleston. Be careful navigating the waters around Edisto though. You may find yourself high and dry.

Edisto is a terrible place to come to fish. Go to Charleston.

nope no fish here and you probably dont want to come down this way the water is bad but the drinks at dockside are GOOD.

All of you people should be ashamed. This is a place where newbies come to learn from the great seasoned vets and you turn your back on him. Shame, shame, I know your name.

I’ll have to say it is true. Me and my friends were down in Edisto right after that rainy hurricane and the only thing we caught was 3 sting rays. No fish. Course lots of folks said the rain reduced the % of salt in the water and that was why the fish didn’t bite. I don’t know. Kinda sounds like “you should have been here yesterday”

So because you didn’t catch fish means there are no fish there? That’s pretty comical…

3 sting rays is pretty impressive for Edisto is there any chance that i can get those numbers. See thats proof there is no reason to fish at Edisto and there is defintily no reason do drive all the way down here.

None. None at all.

Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…

We actually have a house at Edisto and have been coming for the past 20+ years. I used to exclusively offshore fish but now that I sold my big boat I am starting to inshore fish. I have caught my share reds, trout, flounder and I was thinking about taking up fly fishing on the flats. I just was not sure if the flats @ Edisto produced like the guys in Charleston talk about. Any general locations for flats to fish would be appreciated. Thanks

There is some productive flats in the general Edisto area. Tend to be spread out a bit more. Some not quite as big. If you look on a good area map/chart you can spot them. They are scattered and some require a good boat ride from one to the next. The ICW links most of them in the Edisto area. You can start at N Edisto above Dawho and go all the way to the Coosaw and find plenty along the way. Many of the smaller creeks have some too but are smaller flats. Steamboat or Dawho will get you to the north end. It’s a ride to the lower end up ■■■■■■■ Cut, start from Big Bay. To far to put in at Bennetts Pt. If you have a bay boat it’s easier/cheaper just to go from Big Bay up to the Ashepoo area. I think Live oak is closed. The Ashepoo, Rock Cr, Bull R, Coosaw R area has more than the north area IMO. Just farther away. Have to spend some time on the water. Sounds like you are pretty up on the area and have caught fish. The North area and Ashepoo areas I think would be your best bet. You will see people poling and some guides as well if you poke around much. I’ve seen some long rods at both.:sunglasses:

jford,
That is a very good post. Reading what you wrote is why I still look at this site. All of the other crap is a waste of time. Good job and thanks for the info.

I hope you guys realize I was just going along with the no use coming to Edisto theme you had started. Although the story is true.
Six of us fished for 3 days and gave it up. We tried shrimp, squid, mullet and lures. The 3 rays were all we caught. We tried Big Creek, Steamboat, the mouth of Big Creek and the surf. We fished from kayaks and from the bank. It had rained a lot before we came down. I don’t know if that really had a affect or not. A friend and I are coming down the middle of May to give it another try. We hope to have better luck.

Anyone who has ever fished Edisto knows the truth

We may not have “fished”, but we tried. Most of my fishing for the past 30 years has been for mountain trout. I do pretty good at that.
I will admit I am a neophyte at salt water fishing. The reason I read this forum is to try to pickup how to fish at the coast. I do know there are times even if one know what one is doing that skunk ride home with one.

I’ll be the first to tell you that you may see a skunk at Edisto. I’ve seen him down there before!!:face_with_head_bandage: For the most part you can get dinner. It’s fishing, and some days are for sure better than others.:smiley:I’ve tore them up about the same number of times I’ve been skunked.
Got to be flexable - that’s why I always carry some crab nets or at least some hand lines in the boat. Couple times I came home with no fish but, a couple dozen crabs!!!:slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for your reply! Good luck and Godspeed on your fishing!

I’ve been skunked many times, but mainly because I don’t know too terribly much about what I’m doing. I’m still learning. I have been out 2 times in the past week, and have not gotten skunked either time…so things are looking up!

If all the crap is a waste of time - then don’t read it if it gets your panties in a wad!

You are the only one who seems to have taken the “tongue in cheek” seriously.
