Here is a suggestion as well, ive done this in other swaps. After you finish your flies stick a little piece of paper with your screen name on each one. Just run the hook point through the paper. This way its easy to see who tied what.
Just a thought. I’ll probably do this to mine.

Hey FlyFishin, on page two your second pic looks like a flat crab type pattern… How do you get the body to sit flat? When I try to do those patterns they usually get twisted and jacked up. What is the secret to those types of bodies?

If you’re looking for crab patterns check out Borski’s Chernoblyl Crab if you like tying with natural materials. The V Crab, discussed on The Fly Fisherman Inc’s web site is anotehr good pattern that utilizes synthetic Hackle Brushes and is a lot simplier and quicker to tie if your lazy like me. They look a lot like the EP Crabs and you can make them a lot cheaper than you can buy them. The best part is no figure 8’s on the yarn. Basically you can size and color them up or down depending on conditions. I’ve even added some rattles to some.

Sounds good, Mike. Should be there sometime tomorrow afternoon.
So I sat down at the vice tonight to play around for awhile - hadn’t really tied much in quite some time. I went to Josh’s fly tying class at the CA in W. Ashley a few weeks back, so I decided to play around with some ideas I picked up from there.
After a few things that didn’t work out so great, I came up with this guy.
He’s probably a bit big (1/0 hook) and a little too flashy for this time of year. I think it will be a good fly for the tailers, but I am new to this whole fly-fishing game, so what do I know?
Anyways, I’m feelin’ generous, so I’ll throw one of these in for everyone in the swap. If I have time tomorrow, I may do a play-by-play series of photos. Until then, the materials I used are:
-Hook - Gamakatsu SL11-3H 1/0
-Thread - brown
-Eyes - large beadchain
-Tail - dark brown bucktail (tied on side with eyes) and tan bucktail (tied on other side)
-“Feelers” - 2 strands orange krystal flash
-Body - Medium cactus chenille (rootbeer color)
Picked up your flies today, Mike. Those things look pretty sweet! Appreciate the help with the little boxes - will make mailing them MUCH easier.

Hey gang
I had a surprise vist from family this past weekend and I’m travelling to Michigan and Missouri this week for business. I’ll be back home Friday night ,so I’ll tie the clousers and get them in the mail Saturday.
Sorry for the hold up:frowning_face:
So much water, So little time
Great looking fly FF!
nikon- i figure 8 wrap the yarn in 2 peices at a time, as close as i can get them to eachother. then take a small comb and brush the fibers out. if you dont have a comb you can use a bodkin to pick the threads apart or roll them with your fingers to unravel them. its really not hard at all once you understand it. maybe the yarn you are using is not stiff enought. i use craft yarn i found at wallys world
strip…strip…FISH ON!
I’m finished with the shad flies. As a matter of fact, I hope to try some out tomorrow. Still want me to mail them to you or drop them by CA in WA? Your call. Thanks.
