Football in SC

What is everyone’s opinion on the QB replacements at The University of South Carolina and Clemson? Will the state have 2 10+ win major college programs? I am not feeling very confident for either team.

I’m going to wait for Miller_time2 to finish up his Fruit Loops and break this down for us…

Im not sure about SC, but I think Clemson is going to have another good year. Stoudt is ready, but won’t be throwing home run balls all the time like Tajh did, and if he isn’t up t the job, Watson will be itching to take over the starting job. Clemson will be improved on the defense from last year. If the running backs can find some holes to hit, its going to be a great year.

On the other side, SC has a proven winner at qb even if its only for a game or two. I don’t see much drop off for either team, but ive been wrong before.

Man, so many question marks I don’t even want to have an opinion. Strangely I think we will be OK at QB. Tajh was great for us but make so many completely bonehead decisions in big games.

Reports say that Cole Stoud has ice in his veins and can make the reads/throws under pressure but cannot scramble or act like a battering ram like Tajh. We also have Deshaun Watson who supposedly is neck and neck with Cole as a true freshman as a passer and can scramble. He might be starting mid-season.

The biggest loss is Sammy. He did freaking everything for us and won games for us. You can’t replace his production. Not worried about RB we have good guys who have been waiting their turn. Not as good as Mike Davis of course but good enough to be successful.

Our defense is going to be the anchor for the first time in a long time and will keep us in games. We only lost 2 DB’s and a LB and gained a 5 star lock down DB who was out last year with an injury. In response cock fans will say yeah but we scored 31 on that defense. But don’t forget we had 6 freaking turnovers that game. Our defense played really well given the circumstances.

think we will be 9-3. Loss to UGA, FSU and UNC. We beat USC at home. Its a numbers game at this point (and Tajh is gone).

How did Dylan Thompson do last year when Connor was out with injuries? not bad if I recall but I really don’t remember with certainty.

Both teams will be fine.

Cole Stoudt is every bit as good as Boyd was, maybe better where decision making is concerned. He’s a pretty cool customer and doesn’t get rattled easily. He was ready last year but it’s hard to beat out a 2 year starter who has set numerous records at a school. He has a good, accurate arm and can throw the deep ball very well. I’m not the least bit concerned with him at all. He’ll be a game manager

Thompson has a good bit of game experience, is accurate and smart in his decision making. Not sure if he’s as tough as Shaw was but he knows how to win.

10 wins or more are possible for both teams. Both teams are getting to the point where they reload and not rebuild.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I hope there is not much drop off for either.
Thompson has some serious game time. Stoudt has very little.

Thompson struggled , bad , against Missouri. Shaw came in and played the hero. We have 11 wins for 3 straight years because Shaw was ridiculously efficient. 20 something Td’s to 1 INT last year and mid 60’s completion %. I think Thompson will do decent but make critical mistakes that might cost us a game. That is something that Shaw rarely did.

Yep. As I’m sure you will agree while Cole does not have big game experience he still could come in and be a rockstar…we should know exactly what we are dealing with after the UGA game.

man, that’s only 8 weeks away!

Iv’e never seen the boy play. It was in garbage time, so I had moved on to another game.
But I hear, from CU fans, that he is the man

He won’t be the man until he wins a big game.

I think the success of both new QBs will be determined by how well their O Line can protect them. Neither has the ability to consistently hurt teams or extend plays with their legs, as did their predecessors.

Stoudt is taller than Boyd, has a good arm and doesn’t get rattled. It would surprise you how close the two were in ability and skill sets according to Morris. Both had about the same 40 times too from what I can remember. He’ll be a big surprise to many people this year.

I think so as well Salty, but of course we won’t know for sure until UGA. Talk about trial by fire.

I’m curious about not getting rattled. In which game would he not have been rattled? Did he play any meaningful time last year?

I think Salty was talking about reports from practice…which is obviously not the same.

So, what about the gamecocks?

How will the DL be this year after losing all that talent? Who is next up?

He has that calm demeanor and steady as it goes personality. Y’all can continue to think the young man is going to be like a deer in the headlights but you’ll be wrong. Not saying he isn’t going to make some mistakes early on but I doubt they’ll be catastrophic. Add in a stable of backs that all catch the ball out of the backfield well and he’ll make some plays.

I think he will do ok. He has been in the system for a while, his mentor was one of the best qb in Clemson history.
But I will always point out the silly things. Like he will not be rattled when he has not played any significant in a real pressure game…because he has a calm demeaner? I thought Boyd was calm off the field, actually rather likable, but I say him rattled on the field

CU and USC face off twice this year, once in death valley and again in Charlotte in the Belk Bowl…Shaw and Boyd are gonna be badly missed.
