That is not what I asked. Are you OK with DW sitting for the fiesta bowl?

Because beating a no-name team in the toilet bowl doesn’t mean anything to anyone, so why should it mean anything to the player?

This is where you are wrong. Bowl games mean a lot to the players. If not then why do they play?

quitter is a quitter. whether it is a crappy bowl game a good bowl game or the middle of the season.

That’s your opinion and you are welcome to it.

41 bowl games over a hundred dress out on both sides to play the game. Seems to me nearly 10,000 players think the bowl games mean enough to play.

OK i dont really know the rules on how many can dress, but the point is the same. there are plenty who want to play

Interpret it as you like.

Not sure how else it can be interpreted. 82 teams will play. from what you say most of them should just stay home. the players dont care.

right.

So would it be ok for a five star high school athlete to sit out for the state championship game? You know, to save himself for college since he essentially has a $100k+ tuition paycheck coming?

Each one of their situations are different. Some aren’t injured. Some want to improve their draft stock. Some play at a position that isn’t prone to injury. Some are in the Natty hunt.

How many of those 10,000 are injured RBs that have no chance of improving their draft position and are not in the Natty hunt?

Since everyone keeps throwing out unrelated hypothetical situations.

Was it ok for Trump to file bankruptcy ever how many times he did. Was he a quitter?

Tommy Bowden quit in the middle of the season… He was under “contract” and was paid for the remaining of the season… If it weren’t for Bowden quitting, Dabo wouldn’t have ever been a HC anywhere…

Sometimes quitting helps the team… It helped SCar when Spurrier did it, and helped the Taters when Bowden did it…

Best to have people involved that WANT to be there, not because of some BS about quitting…

I disagree with this. You are part of a team. That team got you to where you are. You are quitting on them.

As for injury, if you would play in the regular season…play in the bowl.

So what about DW? is it ok to for him to sit? he will not improve his draft pick. and only risks getting injured.

It’s his choice to play or not. Dabo can’t force him no more than Spurrier could force Clowney.

My question is very related…and its a serious question.

At what point does it become wrong to sit out of a team sport to save yourself for the next level? At what point is it just being selfish?

I like Fournette and McCaffrey a lot…both a very lot, but sitting out for their last game is wrong. If its injury related, I don’t care. If they are just dinged up like 95% of the rest of the college athletes, then I think they are being selfish.

At some point you have to cut your losses. You all are trying to bridge military comradery with the game of football. Not going to happen.

I guess it’s only acceptable to sit out a game in the NFL for the betterment of a bigger prize. Every stage leading up to that level, if you sit out you’re a quitter and a loser.

And just for the record. I care much more about the fact that they are leaving school without a degree, and their coach encouraged it more than I do about them not playing some stupid game. I guess my priorities and value are directed a little differently than all of you.

if you are a member of a team sport and you quit for your own good…you are a quitter. simple as that. the game does not matter, the bowl does not matter.
He11 DW could have sat out this whole season in still be drafted early…would that be OK?

When Spurrier left mid season…what did you call him?

Smart

You defended that he didn’t quit. But now these guys are quitters. Maybe we should say that they “retired” from college football. Feel better now?
