Gamecocks look awful- this is not good

Say what? You picked SC to win 38-31.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

DO NOT USE FACT WITH SALTY

Oh I picked them to win, but I said the loss of Shaw and half the defense was going to have a big effect on the team. No one saw that bombing coming, no one. I also said that the Chickens were not a top 10 or even 15 team. Looks like I was right, they aren’t a top 50 team. Only thing I got wrong was the score, sorry about that but I’m sort of happy to be wrong and savoring this moment.

My take away is #1… that A&M had stud receivers that consistently got open, broke tackles and made 1st downs in bunches. #2…The A&M offensive line consistently gave a clean pocket to the A&M quarterback who had multiple open receivers to throw to. #3…USC never found a defensive rhythm and was consistently out of position, late lining up, and failing to respond to the tempo of A&M. #4…Dylan Thompson is a good quarterback who threw for close to 400 yards, and 4 touchdowns, but having Davis in the locker room made him a 1 trick pony. USC just got punched in the mouth…let’s see how they respond. Keep in mind that in college football losing early isn’t nearly as devastating as losing late in the season.

If yall look back through last years Clem/Fla St threads, you’ll see this dose of humble pie was well deserved. The sun don’t shine on the same dogs ass every day.

Condensed version: They were out-coached and beaten badly on both sides of the ball.

Sakkerliner is a 6-6 team if they get lucky. A&M’s defense was bad last night but SC’s was horrible. When SC goes against a team with a decent defense and a good offense, it’ll be ugly. Gurley may run for 500 in a couple of weeks, Auburn will beat them by 50 and Clemson by 30. UT, Mizzu and UF are going to whip them too. Vandy is a good shot at winning one though.

I’m still curious as to why you say AM’s defense was so bad? and USC offense was bad.

I’ve got a few things to say about this; first off, that was a good ole fashioned take you to the woodshed and beat you kind of display. Kudos to A&M and Sumlin for outplaying/out executing/outcoaching the Gamecocks. They have good athletes, but I don’t by any means think they’re elite. After this week, they’ll probably be right were they should be, top 15 type team. The game plan was well planned and well executed, but the lack of physical presence from the DLINE was the difference in the game.

With that said, I don’t believe its time to panic. The Aggies aren’t quite as good as we made them out to be, but they aren’t a dog either. Yes, SC’s defense is young and to me looked winded and out of position a lot. We really missed someone like Clowney who was willing to run down a running back on the opposite side of the field and Quarles who could get the good pressure up the middle by himself. There was no sense of urgency last night at all.

Offense is going to be fine; the Gamecocks will put up points this year. I’ll be interested to see us playing a game when we’re not 10 points down chasing a team we cannot stop.

I’m sure we’ll see some changes on defense next week. The lack of pressure on the QB last night was the biggest reason for success. If you let any QB in any conference sit in the pocket for three/four seconds on every passing play, they will pick you apart. We have to get pressure on the QB, no way around it. It will be the difference this season. If that display keeps up, look out Lorenzo.

I’ve been going to South Carolina games for almost twenty years now and sat through the Lou Holtz years in the stands where you could sit anywhere you wanted it was so empty. This program has come a long way and I’m grateful. Another 10 win season is still within reaching distance. Don’t panic until its time to panic.

Well said. Anyone who thinks Clowney is not severely missed is delusional. He is a game changer and forces offenses to play AROUND him. I was most amazed at the lack of enthusiasm from the SC players after the first few minutes. It was almost as if they believed they could play at 75% and get the win; No matter what. The atmosphere was tremendous last night at WillieB, but no sense of urgency and no adrenalin. I expected for SC to be much better prepared and flying around the field on defense. Maybe Spurrier is right. They read too much press on themselves and were led into a false sense of security.

It’s probably too early to tell but tamu’s defense was one of the worst last year. Not sure if they can become good in one offseason usually takes a few years.

But the very busted coverages on USCs first two scores could be an indication.

shevlin. you are talking about 2 plays. and a defense can go from good to bad and from bad to good in 1 year in college.

Byrd is fast…just sayin.

I think 2 much is put on the losing just Clowney. It was him plus most everyone else on the defense.

There is a good reason a player is picked first in the draft, especially if he plays DEFENSE! A dominating game changer is what he has been since his sophomore year at South Point high. He opened up several opportunities for other DBs because the focus was on him; that’s not saying that Quarrles and Sutton weren’t good, but we will see how they pan out at the next level without him.

Holy crap people, maybe they come around later in the season but your team sucks. You offense was mediocre at best against a A&M defense still struggling. Thompson was throwing the ball up for grabs half the night, freaking rainbows on anything past 20yds. Didn’t see Davis’s injury but Wilds and Carson couldn’t get going against a line with holes in it. Your defense is awful, just plain awful. That secondary is so bad the SC School for the Deaf and Blind could torch it.

Yeah, don’t panic, mediocrity and a 6-6 at best record is on the horizon. Great 90’ Fathead of Steve though, maybe y’all should get Whammy one too.

LOL, I used to think you knew a thing or two about college football.

Just for the record, you are the obnoxious Clemson fan that people dislike.

Good luck in Athens on Saturday.

Can you name a team that was really bad defensively then after one offseason came back and was good? I can’t but my memory is getting short in my old age.

As of now I don’t believe they have a good defense but only time will tell.

Yeah, that was a pretty rough game for them last night. I always pull for them when they aren’t playing Clemson, but if they can’t get that defense figured out pretty quickly, it could be an ugly season. I would love for Clemson to finally get a win at the end of the season though.
