And got the ply cut and ready to glue in.
Maybe thinking too far ahead, but thinking about what I’ll finish the deck with.
I want something with some grip, but not rough on the feet. Got a sample from durabak but it seems too rough… Also got a sample of hydro turf but I don’t think it’d hold up.
Looking preferably for something I can roll on.
Any thoughts or experiences with products like Durabak, kiwi grip, tuff coat, or some sort of bedliners?
Looks like great progress on the deck! Are you going to apply a layer of fiberglass to all sides of the plywood before gluing to the stringers? (Not judging… I’m about to begin a similar project and wondering about the deck. I’ve seen plywood seams glassed on pontoon renovations).
Sorry, I can’t recommend a surface paint. Keep up the good work.
Kiwi is good stuff, but limited in colors and “tintability”. I liked it, but it is hard to keep clean (if that is a concern). I have some I will give you if you want. (Gray)…but really whitish colored.

I won’t be fiberglassing the underside, just several coats of epoxy for water resistance before gluing it down, per Cracker Larry’s advice.
Btw anybody heard from that guy? Haven’t seen him post anything in awhile.
Hope he’s ok
Be sure to use butt blocking at all seams and epoxie and screw! I’ve got a place in my CC that I did not do(thaught it was ok at 10") and now it pops when you step on it. only place I didn’t place a block!
Still plugging along with this when I have time. Finally started some sanding and realized I’ve got a good bit of cracks in the gelcoat.
Some guys on another site suggested I use some epoxy primer to seal the cracks.
Glued some pieces in so I’d have somewhere to screw things, rod holders, etc and bow storage going in today
You can see where there were about 100 holes to fill in from duck blinds or who the hell knows what. Must’ve been 6 different trolling motors on this thing
Still trying to decide on paint options. Doesn’t seem to be a lot of flat marine paint out there which is what I’m looking for.
Looking at the Parkers duck boat paint, mainly because it’s flat, I like the base colors, and it’s a one part.
Anyone had experience with it? Any reasons why I should or shouldn’t use it?
I’ve used the Parkers for years on several boats. Spreads, covers and blends in well. It holds up pretty good - no complaints. I used the sand tan on inside and OD green on outside.
To be honest, with that gelcoat the way it is, I’m not sure I’d risk going over it. Grind it off until it’s through all of the questionable parts and have at it…I mean, at this point, why bandaid it?
Agree with leadenwahboy, use a strong 5" random orbital sander with 80 grit. Maybe 40 grit? Take it down to a decent surface. Then, paint it. Keep the sander moving. With aggressive paper on it, if it sits still or in one place momentarily, it’ll dig deeper than you want.

Awesome to see you back at it! I love these build threads. Sucks that the rest of the pics are now funked up because of photobucket…
Looks like you had leadenwahboy build you a paint booth lol! Well done and its coming right along!
Just when I thought I was done with the grinder. Pulled the nasty carpet and a piece of ply off the seat lid and discovered that it had been cut on both ends. Held together with silicone and wood screws. So of course the wood core is rotten. I could rig it the way it is but I know what I should do.
Oh well just more work.
