High Tide Rebuild (updated 3-23)

After the prep work I painted the bottom of the hull and the underside of the rubrail area. While it is raised up, I pored foam along the gunnel cap the length of the boat. I still have to finish off the interior, install the deck, hatch, rear seat, fairing and electrical wiring.

Looks good! If I were to build/rebuild another boat, I think a 16-17 FT High Tide would be a great hull to replicate/redo.

Also, I read you’re going with a tiller motor. What are you leaning towards?

I have a 25 HP 3 cyl Yamaha that I hope will push the boat without adding a whole lot of weight on the rear. I have not ever run that motor on this boat so I am not sure if it will be enough or not. I hope I don’t have to go to a 40 hp. I used to have one and it gets pretty heavy tilting that motor up and down throughout the day.

I was able to find a CMC PT-35 that was a store demo at a deep discount for that very reason.

Got the anchor / storage locker glassed and painted white in order to be able to see what is in there. I am going to have a LED light in this area as well.

Then I got the front deck glued down and drainage holes that will accept plugs for front locker area in. Some sanding and shaping and will get it taped and glassed in. On to the rear seat area and wiring after that.

What type plywood are you using for the deck?

1/2" marine fir with 6 oz cloth on bottom and will have 12 oz. biax on the top of the deck.

That is a “poor man’s marking plumb bob”. One of a kind.

Been shaping the areas each side of the bench seat for a while. Been a PIA with no mold to go by.

And the seat glued down. Will glass the seat and the sides of the seat next.

Loving this project. Makes me want to try one.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

I have been messing with the boat recently only when I feel like it. With fishing, hunting, football, etc. it makes for not much free time. I have finally gotten each side of the seat shaped and glassed in. All of the glassing is done! I am gonna beat this thing.

Since then, I have faired and sanded. Then I faired and sanded. Ditto. I could go ahead and plan on painting, because this is not going to be a show boat. Since this is really my first rebuild / fairing with any size whatsoever, I am trying to do it correctly so I can incorporate what I have learned into the next build…whatever that may be. I have learned a lot, with some good advice from some good people.

Rome wasn’t built in a day I suppose. Here are a couple of pics of my glassing / fairing progression.
