I watched you video, twice, to me it looks like you could be hung up on the bottom. Not trying to troll you (not exactly sure what that means or how to do it)or be arbitrary… I hope like hell you solve this mystery and it’s a great catch… Best of luck luck

Didn’t mean to jump on ya but I’ve been fishing a long long time and know he difference between getting stuck on something and a fish. The bottom doesn’t move in the same direction as the boat but faster. The bottom doesn’t move 75 yards in 30 seconds when the boat isn’t moving.

I’m not a Dr, those are my initials and I cant edit my user name. Please do not contact me regarding medical issues

he’s a Doctor. he’d know if its the the bottom you bunch of lowlife haters. dammit

i think surfwrangler’s onto something- cownose rays are really thick out there lately

Area is littered with cut anchor lines, you’re snagging loose ropes.

I’m with wang. But, it doesnt really explain the spit hooks. The fight, however, sounds like a cownose. Those things are strong as ****!

I remember you guys got about a 30lber on a trout rod up the cooper one day, said you passed the rod around for about 45mins… ralph and bugs if I recall correctly

hooks could be pulling through the tough skin after a while, as I’m guessing they’d be fouled on the wing more often than not

I think Pea should get to decide who gets bant from this thread for bothering the man about his medical “bottom” issues

You are hung on something for sure. Your boat is moving a lot in that current even in neutral.

Also, it’s your boat, but if that shallow spot is the rocks, you might want to be real careful. Not much room for error there.

If at first you don’t succeed, fish and fish again…

Loose ropes with something attached to them. Sort of like a drift sock. Does this fish always run with the current? Its just too easy to hook up with this mystery fish in the same spot every time. Also, you’re trolling, so that makes boat movement along with current and a snag can do some really squirly stuff.

I hope the OP is correct and there is some mystery fish, but from what little bit of video we were provided, that looks an awful lot like a snag.

Hooked into some grown stingrays in the area today, oh and of course these guys follow me everywhere

You are hooking the ledge…you would have landed one by now otherwise. You can see the lure bouncing off the bottom and you say in the video you cut the motor to drop the bait after passing over the ledge. The line peeling is happening because you then accelerate after dropping the lure. And you are hooking them in the SAME spot everytime….to many coincidences. Hook probably “pulls” when you come back over the ledge I am guessing. But hey you are using wahoo techniques so maybe its that they are hard to keep hooked sometimes…good luck hope you prove me wrong.

I figured it out! I got this pic, but it was very elusive, so it is kind of small from being so far away. It was as close as I could get to it! These things are very hard to catch!!!

Skunkape.

Drterry seems to have disappeared…

If at first you don’t succeed, fish and fish again…

Probably in a heated battle with a mystery fish…sorry I couldn’t help myself

I’d say his trolling skills are near epic.

i don’t believe DRTerry is trolling anyone. I’ve met him and he’s a great guy. We have all been fishing long enough to know if we’ve caught the bottom. He’s just looking for some advice; aren’t we all since we’re on here…

Sunday 3 June Here’s what it is and I hope somebody post a picture when they catch one. Set up with a chum line Sun afternoon off the North Jetty messing with the sharks. Had one whole blue cat carcass from the wapoo cut ramp (thanks whoever the night before) Keeping busy catching sharpnose and chunking from a bonita we caught earlier. Lost about a forty pound spinner shark that cartwheels and cut the 100lb monleader as expected. Started wondering why nothing was messing with the one live grunt on the float rig for about 20mins when something starts worrying the
bait and then slams it. Time I get the rod out of the holder it’s gone. Let it sit, nothing comes back. I Wind it up and the grunts been mashed and scaled, eyes bugged out and like a tear on one side. Didn’t think much of it… thew it back in the chum bucket. Too busy re rigging from all the little sharp noses to pay much attention. Just figured another shark some how didn’t cut it in half. Well I rebait and throw the last live bait back out and get busy re rigging another rod again and the top rod doubles up screeming. My heaviest surf rod with a slam full spool of 30 pound ANDE. I’ve caught big cobia, 50 pound sting rays and 20 pound reds on way smaller rods with lighter line. Well time my buddy gets the rod down out off t top 1/4 line gone.
He asks me what to do. “Just hold on he’ll stop” I say. 5-10 seconds later down to 1/2 spool. “What do I do tighten the drag?” I say yeah tighten it some. (It was already too tight) Time he figures out which way to turn the knob I can see the spool through the line that’s left. I say tighten it, tighten it. Then POW! hit’s the knot like a pistol going off and the parting the line cuts my buddies knuckle. We just look at each other.
Dayum. All day next day I’m thinking … I don’t know any inshore shark that puts on that kind on blistering run except maybe a spinner and this this thing never made a single turn, a wake or a ripple, and of course didn’t cut the mono leader again. That was 300 yards of line and st
