I have a 7wt and an 8wt , I will bring them both down

Is everyone planning on staying in the lagoon ? Are there any species just off shore worth trying for ?

If its like last year…early on and late off the lagoon, which for me doesn’t leave much time to hit the surf. Who knows, I might bring a couple of surf rods with me.

What about ‘yak fishin’ outside of the lagoon ?..how far out would you have to paddle to get into something interesting? and …is there anything worth paddleing for?

The more you fish, the better you lie.

Mornin’;
Thanks “S1”.
Yea “Mud” last year we had a “High” Tide at like 7:30-8:00, pretty close to a 10 footer …and winds seemed like 20-25mph

a.k.a. "X-Fishin’ "

and the temperature was like 20 degrees, couldnt find enough clothes to put on at night, but it was a great time

Hey Mud, what do you think…are those favorable conditions for some offshore-yakfishin’ ? I remember there were some nice bull reds getting caught last year.I also read there may be some mackeral in the area.Is this true?..So…I’m wondering if anyone else would be interested in heading out??..Or would this be a waste of energy?

Hey y’all don’t need to pay attention to 51, he’s from down south. He’s got no clue what cold is?..20 degrees?.. you had shorts on. From what I can remember I was the one that didn’t have enough clothes.

Murray, don’t much about that inlet, I’d talk to yak or p4f. I’ve got a feeling the water there move pretty fast…? I’m starting pick up some nice reds here. By then they should be leaving. I don’t get the chance to catch big trout here so I think I’ll be staying in the lagoon?

Murray,

I wouldn’t know, never fish out there… The water offshore is VERY Shallow for several miles. In November, the majority of summer species are gone, leaving Redfish, Seatrout, Whiting, Black Drum, Sheepshead, and Dogfish. Some Flounder year round too, but spread out.

I suspect best bet is to find one of the deep holes, and fish for Black Drum. There is one off the north end of Hunting Island State Park, but it is a LONG paddle from the Lagoon.

Supposedly there are a few offshore reefs within a couple of miles, that might have Black Sea Bass too..

Hunting Island is 15 min from the house and was thinking about heading down to the lagoon and fishing one day. Believe the lagoon is about 2 miles long and there is parking to the North, but are there any other spots to put in at? Can you paddle the full lenght at low tide?

What is chiefly needed is skill rather than machinery.

You must live further away than I do… I live in Dulamo on Hunting Island.

As for the lagoon. The launch sites are at the parking area… Yes, you can kayak the length of the lagoon at low tide, but there are a few areas with REAL THIN water at lowest tides… Stay in the channel, and you will be OK.

Thinking of heaing out this weekend? I might be able to get a house pass to join!
