For those of you that doubt…The fish ate the lure and took off straight behind the boat.I told my neice to get in the chair as we were clearing lines.I then took the rod out of the holder and handed it over to her.At that time all lines were clear and we started backing down. All she had to do then was reel.10-15 minutes later fish swims right along side,5 seconds later I stuck the hook in him.All hugs for the little one.BTW she did the same drill on a 30lber. in last years Megadock.$$$$$$$$$ was the last ■■■■ thing we were thinking about!
How bout a CONGRATS to Major Motion! Good going guys.
I dont really care if she had help or not. the fish got in the boat and that is the main thing. I think the rules are bs anyway. Get the fish in the boat anyway you can, who cares who touches the rod. My thing is let’s just be honest about it. I just dont believe a 9 year old girl reeled in a 62lb. dolphin. I never will believe it unless I see some video of how it happened. There is no way she could even hold an 80 or 130, let alone hold one while reeling in a fish. Great catch by the sea baby, but just be honest about what went down.
for all of those of you who dopubt that a young female could do this look up a girl by the name of Jordan McCullough she is the angler for team release marine she is a little older now but has done it since that age you can see her on espn in the BXRL for those who want to see proof and by the way good job on the catch
you doubting experts have obviously never seen a bucket harness… if you can pass the rod, strap the little one into the harness, there really isn’t much to it… (as long as you have a boat driver w/ a moderate level of skill)
Wonderful,
Am I correct in that you are suggesting that the Sea Baby:
A. Cheated, and B lied about it?
Pretty strong accusations against a group of people whose integrity has never been called into question.
Congrats to MAJOR MOTION - nice win!

Wonderful,
The more you post the more you show your ignorance. So do away with the useless drivel and understand this. If you were not fishing in your Jon boat you would know that a Big offshore vessel has a chair with a bucket. If someone picks up the rod from the holder and places it in the gimble(thats the little silver thing on the chair you put the rod butt in)losens the drag to about 12 pounds and backs-up to the fish a 6 year old with a first grade education would be able to turn the handle. You, however, have demonstrated that you do not possess said education, therefore you could probably not manage this fish to the boat with a winch and stick of dynamite to knock it out.
Leave the young lady alone she did a great job!!! Congrats to all Jr., Youth and Lady anglers that participated in the Mega Dock Tournament.
Please turn the handle the reels are not electric!!!
That 9 year old is my little cousin and I was on the Sea Baby that day.
To set the record straight, she did use a bucket harness and I think the rod was a 50. Her dad, the captain, saw the dolphin coming into the spread. He yelled down at us in the cockpit. It hit the right short and started peeling line. It took about 2 minutes for the girl, Susie, to get into the chair and strap the harness to the rod. We then backed down about a 100 yards after she fought as much as she could.
There is no way to know how big a fish is until its at the side of the boat. We wanted the female anglers to try and fish first. The reason we put her on this dolphin was because we knew she would have a tough time reeling in a billfish; that’s what her mom was going to do if we hooked one.
thanks for setting the record straight. that is an awesome catch.
and stank bait, she was just a bit over 7, but it was the first fish of any kind she had ever wound on… bream, bass, dolphin, whatever included…

You see the big picture. Hats off. The money will come and go. That memory will last forever. It is not the prise that gives the most statisfation it is the journey. Class act for giving her the shot.
Can’t wait for my little one to catch one.

Not sure, sounds like something OldSchool would say. It is wrong not to force that child to learn the hard way. Put her in s skiff with some sardines and a 1955 penn 4/0 and show her how REAL fisherman do it!

I assure you, I love my son more than anything and I want him to love fishing like I do. So don’t patronize us with your feel good banter. Of course, we all want our kids to catch a great fish. Of course, we would rather our kid catch a great fish than we ourselves. I am teaching my son to fish off of the dock with a bream buster and mud minnows right now. There are few things more enjoyable than this… I am pretty sure that most everyone who posts on this site feels this way. So do not try to place us as heartless, child hating Cretans.
For one, I never stated or inferred that the young girl did not catch the fish. I simply stated at first that I would have liked to have seen the whole ordeal. If I thought there was cheating or whatnot, I would have said as such. I think I am consistant in stating my opinion regardless of its popularity.
The topic of money came up after a number of other tangents were set forth. I still would not put my yo

But we all know you are! Just kidding Cracker, you have a great point. I agree with you 100%. If others had money in it especially that kind of $$$ I feel it wrong to not give the team your best shot at the fish. But if I were on the boat for the ride and the captain had paid the $$$. He can let the dog reel it in for all I care.
My boat this would be discussed before hand as many of the “next fish” are. Typically we let our guests reel in the fish anyway. Chunky would rather gaff, I would rather drive, and the Judge likes to leader and shout out orders. We typically appoint the next angler early in the game and get fighting belts and what ever ready for the next knockdown. Keeps the chaos at a minimum.
Sounds like Bolbie had a similar plan wanting his lady anglers to catch the fish.

Cracker, i agree with you as well. As for the $$$, the captain/owner of the boat paid for everything and it was his daughter that caught the fish. But I understand where you’re coming from. And usually people do let their guests reel in the fish(atleast the people i fish with do), but sometimes, like during a tourny, that’s not the case.
SFG, getting the fighting belts early is worst than eating a banna.

Wonderful must have come in second in the tourney.
Congrats Bolbie!
He took the bait like a jugbelly redfish on an olive and white clouser.
I doubt that the folks on the Sea Baby cared about the money very much.
