Phin,
Great work, keep it up!!! I’m really impressed by the craftsmanship that you’re putting into the build. I’m learning a lot as you go.

Thanks David!
Here is what we got done since Saturday. Glenn, Jason and my cousin were a big help- especially my cousin. Things are so much easier with extra hands and minds!
First thing Saturday morning, I attacked inside the gunwales where I’ll make the safety gear lockers. These lockers will get finished off inside and drain into the rod/gaff hanger recessed areas in the gunwales. Will also be able to access fuel fill/vent fittings and backing plates and thru bolts for vertical spring line cleats that will have a hawse pipe over them midships.

Nice progress. Impressive work going on there, that few could do.
Phin, you are going to keep this one when finished, arn’t you???
We do plan on keeping it. I have thought about what it would take for someone to buy it from me, and I just can’t come up with a number that would do it. Something in me just shuts those thoughts right down after only a second or two.
The goal for me here was to get the best boat I could afford that’d be capable of doing what we enjoy doing with a boat. This boat will do what we want right now, and maybe that will change later. Who knows? I cannot imagine selling it even if a larger boat comes on the scene. I would almost rather someone close to me use Mojo and keep it doing what it was built to do.
I am showing a lot of people exactly what I want in a boat with this project. I don’t know of a boat that has what this one will have- short of spending 100 grand or something for all the customization. Some of it may not matter to folks reading this, but every part of this boat has specific intended purposes so make maintenance and use easier for us. I am really tired of all the maintenance, cost and WORK it normally takes to go fishing or cruising in a boat.
Speaking of work… I feel like I’m over the hump now, and it’s all a downhill run now that the transom’s in.
Thanks for the compliments, everyone.

Thats a serious boat! Shes going to need some elbow grease! If you want a nice T-top to put on it ive got one in my garage. Navy blue top and gold rod holders. 1000.00 firm. If youre interested let me know.

You are over the hump for sure. I always feel over the hump when the demo is finished and re-building starts. The demo is the most labor intensive and least fun part of the job.

It’s looking pretty impressive Wes. I can’t wait to see the finished product or come help with some sanding whenever I get home in September.
Sidenote- If this thread has inspired anyone to fix up an old Mako, I found this today… http://keys.craigslist.org/boa/3161091578.html

You need to buy that 21 Chris!
Bargain basement price for that hull on a good trailer.

Proud of you! Keep at it and if you don’t have time to cook one night, you know where to get a free meal.

moved new transom near boat and cut up some fibers in order to make super long strands in the putty and resin we’re about to sandwich together to bond this to the old transom shell
You can see some of the pre-drilled bolt holes, which will clamp the new transom into the boat for a good bond
notched trowel I am about to use on the old transom shell to spread some special putty I made with the vinylester resin, cabosil and milled glass added for strength
sorry no pics of putty and resin going onto the two pieces
we had to work extremely quickly
clamped in and hot
clamps off 30 min later
Transom feels rock solid, and the four stringers aren’t even attached yet!
Really happy with how it turned out.
