It apears these three recruiting class ranking entities have a different opinion of USC’s recruiting efforts than some “article” (that we have yet to see) and said “article’s” readers.
If this level of recuiting puts Muschamp “on the hot seat,” there’s a bunch of 2nd and 3rd degree burns on countless head coach’s butts all across the country. I believe Muschamp can put the aloe back on the shelf.
In full disclosure, I believe pre-season rankings and “star” rankings for high school kids that have never played a down at the college level are absolute crap and worthless but I acknowledge the validity most place on them.
Gamecocks have a decent ranking due to the amount of recruits they are taking, so that adds up points. The true measuring stick is the average star rating. USC is taking around 25 recruits or maybe more, Clemson is only taking around 14 or 15 this class and have a 3.7 star average and that’s about to go up come tomorrow for early signing period.
Clem, I’m not questioning the validity of these rankings. They are what they are regardless of what we think the results are “due to.” I don’t know what variables these ranking entities use to come up with their rankings but obviously it’s not just based on the amount of recruits being taken. If that was the main variable that each recruiting entity used and/or they used the same variables, each of them would have the same rankings. Personally, I don’t give a squat about preseason rankings, recruit “stars” or USC/Clemson. This thread is more in response to the “Muschamp on the hot seat” thread.
SC is placing their chips on a qb that no other big program wanted as a qb. Boom could be a genius, or not. I chortle when I hear coot fans talking him up, but hen when you mention any other program wanted him as a wide reciever…

You are uniformed. Clem1984 is on target. Go back and look at which programs have the best star ratings and you will see the teams that year in and year out end up at the top.
Quality, not quantity. Clemson got their first signed letter today. Some kid named Trevor Lawrence. Never heard of him. Looks like a love child of Keanu and Swayze from Point Break.
It would be dumb for them to give him less than two more years, especially if he wins 8 games the next 2 seasons. He’s been very fortunate to have a bad schedule but 8 wins is a good season for the coots. Unfortunately for Boom many coots are calling for his head and tanners head.
I think Clemson’s current run of success could poison the coot program by raising expectations to a level they have never achieved and creating constant turnover of coaches.

I think he’s a fantastic coach. I’ll definitely be pulling for him to keep his job for a long time.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Regardless of where YOU think USC is placing their chips, the national recruiting ranking entities seem to think USC (Muschamp and his staff) is doing a little better at recruiting than you want to give them credit for. You can twist and pick and choose all you want but the fact remains, the people responsible for ranking recruiting classes for schools all across the country have a different opinion of USC’s recruiting efforts than you do. Given they use factual and tangible information, and not just orange-tinted opinion and made up articles, I think anyone that knows anything about college football and recruiting would be better-advised to believe what they’re reporting versus what you’re quoting from a make believe article. As it is, you’re the CNN of the college football recruiting class ranking world.

HAHA!!! Throw in some War Child and he’d be a real badass! LOL!!
Also a lot of callers on 107.5 after the Clemson game. I would say they were Clemson fans trolling, but it would not serve Clemson well to get Muschamp fired.
I’d have to go with Geronimo on this one. I’m more concerned about that than the USC/Clemson “rivalry.” But like I’ve said before, since these are the only two teams being discussed and I love to talk football, I have no choice. That said, more than I don’t give a crap about this so called “rivalry,” I DO give a crap about false/inaccurate information. Talk all the crap you want about the other team, that’s fine, but do yourself a favor and back up your smack talk with factual information. It makes your smack talk that much more effective, in my opinion. But hey, don’t let a little thing like truth and facts stand in the way of your “rivalry.” Yay, state champs!
I don’t believe Muschamp is on the hot seat at all. As I have said before, next year is very pivotal. If they don’t win at least 8 next year and get thrashed again in the Palmetto Bowl, then the true grumbling will begin. A very favorable schedule should keep Mr. Flintstone firmly in place for at least 3 more years.
“MAny coots are calling for his head” Can I get a link?
After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.
FGF after the Clemson beatdown. Not worth my time looking for as it’s covered by the cries about basketball now.
First, Most, Biggest
I am sure after an emotional loss to a rival there were plenty of people letting their emotions speak for them. Most people I’ve talked to are pretty good with where USC is headed and are willing to give it some time, but there are always some and they are normally the ones that pollute team message boards that are saying this stuff. I am sure they are all ready to run Frank Martin out of town today as well.
Maybe it is just my age, but many of today’s fans are a bunch of spoiled rotten cry babies that think we should be able to win it all in short time, when it has never been done before. It is exacerbated by Clemson’s success for sure, but really the focus should be on the SEC right now. Take care of business there and the rest will take care of itself. There is still a long way to go in terms of talent, but the product on the field does seem to be getting better and the entire attitude of the team is much better. Hopefully the guys signed today will contribute to more success.
I don’t believe Muschamp is on the hot seat at all.
I don’t either and all of the recruiting data/rankings (aka proof) support that he s NOT on the hot seat.
In my opinion, USC is not at the level of Clemson and therefore should not be a factor when determining the “temperature” of the seat the HC is on. Now we all know that’s not the case but that’s just my opinion. If USC makes it back to relevance on the national stage (consistently living in the top 25 in national rankings), then I can see a demand for being competitive against Clemson but as of right now, and given the talent gap between the two programs, I believe USC would be better served if they focussed more on building their program as opposed to winning a state championship banner. Sadly, there are fans on both sides that would rather beat the other than win conference titles. Look at the Sports Forum here. Clemson is fixing to play in the CFP AGAIN, with an opportunity to play for another NT and yet the majority of the banter from Clemson fans is aimed at USC. Maybe it’s because my Terps don’t really have a “rival” and haven’t been nationally relevant since the early 2000’s (outright ACC champion in '01) but I don’t understand how beating a lower-tier (it’s what USC is compared to Clemson right now, sorry USC fans) non-conference in-state school could be more important than winning conference and national championships.
