My Lady's First BIG red!

Well, you’ve really messed up now. You are supposed to introduce them to the 40" club first, not the 50". Now every time she goes again she is going to think you don’t know what you are doing for not catching one bigger.

As to your comment about researching the shrimp boat, do you really think even zoomed in 1000% we can tell what or who that tiny spec is? I fish with Jnail and some others on this board and I have offered up the spot plenty. We have caught several 40+ and even 50+ reds there too. And even if we all knew your “special location” I agree, do you really think we will all show up? I fish right next 4 or 5 other guys who come to my house and backyard and they are the ones doing the catching while I have only pulled in stupidly large rays.

Not sharing your spot isn’t protecting you from competition, and it certainly doesn’t get others who enjoy the same sport fishing that you do. Some people have no spots, and fish once a month if that. When they see big success and can’t for the life of them have remotely the same it deters them from trying to enjoy the same sport you love.

Lastly secrets don’t make friends. I learned from living in New York, that paying your way forward can have rewards greater than you have ever dreamed of. Secrets don’t make friends.

I wish the rest of this forum would share info like we do in the striper forum. I semi understand the inshore thing, because so many people are into it these days. But surf fishing and striper fishing is kind of a small class. And I feel like we should all help each other out. We give out tons of details about our striper trips, and lots of people have followed suit and had great results and lots of fun. Nothing makes me feel better than knowing I shared some fishing knowledge to someone that then took there kid or wife who have never seen a big fish let alone catch one have success.

It’s not like you can keep the fish, they are going to be there feeding in mass. Plus most people would rather go fish by boat and catch the same size fish all day long, all year long than set up on the beach for a few weeks each year. True they only come to the surf certain times of year, but it’s not like it’s hard to catch 50" plus bull reds in our waters.

Congrats again to your catch, but I agree with sharing helps the sport. But to each there own. This forum just seems like more of a bragging board than a community of fisherman to me.

Great fish, that’s what I’ve been trying to do for my son and I, we just haven’t had luck like that, at all. Good luck and keep the pics coming.

Hmmmm…I would say from the looks of the sand and the shrimp boat it has to be Dewees!

fryers kid thanks for the compliment they were really nice fish i hope you can put your son on some of the big reds this month from the sound of some of these guys fifty pounders are on a regular fir them. Cant say the same for myself but it was an accomplishment for me to put her on a big one since ive been fishing this spot for over fifteen years and have seen alot of big ones but never that big. And dsnave you are close but not quite there. but anyways thanks for all the congrats i appreciate it.

capers… if not well i know for a fact there are huge reds at capers

use that info folks!

Very nice fish, congrats! Now she will definitely be hooked for sure! And guys, he has every right to keep his fishing spot a secret no matter if you other guys like to share spots. Once again, awesome catch.

I’m so salt life I sued google earth for giving away all of my fishing spot’s.

31.6 miles north of iop now u find what beach it is!! enough info

plenty beaches out there u pick one!! The most eastern beach in sc!!

I fished off the beach just a smidge north of there in North Bay for tarpon the other day. Lots of hard sandy bottom with some nice whiting up in that area. You should use some lighter rods next time with some fresh small pieces of mullet or shrimp on some small gold bream hooks and bring home supper as well as those trophy pics.

I don’t see why people are upset that info isn’t given on request. if a fella doesn’t wanna share, don’t piss in his ear about it. Not everyone wants to fish around a crowd.

the attempt to guilt or bully someone into doing so is about as ridiculous as it gets.

go cry back in new york, or the gulf coast, or where ever the hell you’re from that shares so openly. its a good thing spots are not shown so readily…

surf, nice fish.

Here’s my 10 cents, my 2 cents is free

Couldn’t have said it better myself stretcharmstrong was wondering when some locals were gonna back me. Some spots are shareable but when you do this three or four times a year I don’t want to see anyone but my family and friends!! And yes I do catch big fish from a boat but this time of year I like to relax on the beach with my friends and family!! More trophy pics to come hopefully I will land this tarpon I’ve been looking for in the next few weeks.

WOW!! I think I may want to get into this Surf Fishing.

Awesome fish. Keep on catching them & keep on keeping your spot yours. If someone wants to catch fish like that all they have to do is put the keyboard down & get to it. Its all about getting out and exploring the area’s. Theirs plenty of those big bull reds out in the surf.

Try Folly Beach down by the County Park.

its like when u are offshore you dont call all boats cause u found a big weedline and tell them there is a school of dolphin under it so everyone and there momma come racing there to interfere with ur fishing. its a big ocean just like it is a big beach its all about knowing where they live at certain times of the year and you have to go out there and spend lots of time not to mention lots of money!!

It basically started because even offering which “beach” you were on was too much to ask by another member. Plenty of others go as far as whiting out their background because god forbid someone knows there spot. Again as fishermen you should be promoting others getting involved or further involved rather than pushing new comers away. It would be like Michael Jordan telling some kid to piss off he wasn’t going to share pointers. That kid would not want to keep playing basketball. Just because you tell someone how to do something, doesn’t mean they can replicate the same results. The shark fishers from FL who share pretty much a step by step guide to catching big sharks have inspired plenty to get into the sport they love, so that their accomplishments even have someone else to be in awe of them.

This is also a forum community, and to grow a community requires providing a reason for people to come here. Telling people to piss off doesn’t promote growing the community you choose to take part in who will also be the ones to care about your accomplishment.

nice fish surfman thanks for sharing , on the matter of the location i have caught several along the beaches of south carolina from aug to late nov so quit complaining and get off ur @## and go find them just dont fish in my spot lol

the guy with most rods in the water catches the most fish
