My surf setup for sharks

Lots of interest in shark fishing on the board here lately - thought I would share my setup and hope it helps someone.

some nice equipment there!

I would really like some opinion on a good Penn spinning reel. I will use 65 to 100 lb. Braid

Very good video

Penn Spinfisher 8500LL is what I would recommend.

The spinfisher is a very nice reel for the price

I second the Spinfisher, I have a 8500 and a 10500. Highly recommend.

For us poor fishermen out there haha i run 4 Matching Penn Pursuit 8000 on 10 foot rods with 525 Yards of 65 pound braid. 9/0 Circle Hooks and cut bonita if im feeling lazy and dont feel like catching bait.

How do you use those large sinkers? Ever have a problem with them while fighting a fish?

They hold better than pyramids, especially in strong current ( inlets ) - never had an issue while fighting a fish.

  • I don’t go over 8 oz on casted gear, and the big ones are for the kayaked baits.

Gotcha, those things look like they hold better than my danforth

Got this guy today on the Mak 15 - what a fat ass!

I third the spin fisher, just got the 10500. ITS A BEAST!!!, penn pursuit 8000 has been a work horse for me for awhile now.

I’ll be that guy. … Shimano baitrunner.

I had a Shimano Baitrunner at one time, it performed well for being as old as it was.

Iggy,
That sandtiger is a beast! Holy crap. Ive always wanted to catch one of those but never have. Great pic.

Do you use your 8500 or 10500 more? I’ve been trying to decide between the 8500, 9500, or 10500. It will be my big shark rig.

I use both of them every time I shark fish. If I had to choose one I would choose the 10500 just because it holds more line and could handle bigger fish.
