Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Hell yeah. Gonna hang some gravity feeders this weekend. I hope the deer will eat out of them so I can keep at least some of the corn from the other critters.

The thrill of killing something was something Dad turned a shy Eye as I grew up. He remembered boyhood and growing up. Mom didn’t, but dad did. Many a tweety bird and possum went down from the old CrossMan, then .410, but Dad was stern about if it was “edible” and shot. It got eaten.

I make a fuss with my wife about deer on our property and getting in our garden and her not lettting me kill any. But to be honest, I do enjoy watching them now.

How will DNR enforce a tag per deer requirement?

(The tags would only be valid on properties not enrolled in the Deer Quota Program.)

what the heck does that mean?Deer Quota Program.is that doe tags.Just want to know.

Bill aims to establish limit on deer hunting in SC

By GREGG HOLSHOUSER

For The Sun News February 20, 2015
SOUTH CAROLINA ? Senator Chip Campsen III is doing his part in the South Carolina Legislature to help overhaul the Palmetto State’s antiquated hunting laws on white-tailed deer.

Campsen, Chairman of the Senate’s Fish, Game and Forestry Committee, is one of two main sponsors of a bill that would seriously alter regulation of white-tailed deer in the state.

The bill, S 454, proposes establishing a limit of bucks in the entire state and would require tags for all deer harvested.

In addition, the Antlerless Deer Quota Program, through which many landowners over the years have received doe tags, would be changed to the Deer Quota Program and would provide tags for bucks and does.

Campsen and Ross Turner, R-Greenville, sponsored the bill, which was unanimously approved by a subcommittee Thursday morning and is expected to be on the agenda Wednesday before the full Fish, Game and Forestry Committee.

?South Carolina is the only state in the nation without any limit at all [on bucks], so it?s a great thing on many fronts,? said Campsen, R-Charleston. ?We’re hoping [the bill will mean] better deer and better hunting experiences on private and public land. I hope it will help encourage an ethic that focuses on harvesting mature bucks in their prime and letting young deer who haven’t reached their prime grow into those trophies you can be proud of.?

Campsen is familiar with the issue he is taking on with the bill. He manages land in the pristine ACE Basin area between Charleston and Beaufort, where he hunts deer and turkey among other species.

?This is not a theoretical issue for me, it?s practical,? said Campsen. ?I’m a very avid hunter. I take great pleasure seeing wildlife respond to management practices.?

I could care less about dog hunters at this point, regardless of the history. They’ve had ample time to police themselves and have proved time and again that they’re incapable of it. “F” 'em…hard. And night hunters, renegades, etc. pale in comparison to the game-hog nature of the dog-hunter…brown is truly down with those jacktards…and it doesn’t matter whose property they trespass on b/c “my dogs can’t read signs, bo.” To all redneck dog-hunters, I say this, “Buh-bye to your sport and your heritage, you’ve earned it.”

Your biggest mistake in the above comment is your lack of knowledge and understanding on Dog hunting. Not saying you are, but you kind of come off as a young city boy with a chip on your shoulder.

You can not clump all dog hunters in the same group. I personally hate having dogs run through my property or some of the property I hunt, but not all dog hunters are like that. I’d bet a nickle you would enjoy a good dog hunt done proper. I’d also bet that same nickle you’d have a hell of a time hitting that big buck in front of the pack running wide open.

Get rid of all the dog hunting and we just might start enjoying the coyotes helping reduce the deer population. People like to think deer numbers are down, I don’t see that. Also remember deer are more of a nocturnal animal, sometimes they need a little dog help being pushed into sight. Our forests are very dense verses our Northern neighbors.

o.k. they are plastic now… they are not the paper ones you buy for $20 for the 4…

Could you imagine the mass genocide of walker dogs if dog driving was outlawed? I can’t because your never gonna stop them. No matter if you approve or not. There still gonna run them. There children still gonna run them. And there children’s children will be doing the same. For many around here taking their dogs is like taking their guns. It just ain’t gonna happen boss.

This man has a good grip on the reality of the situation  It doesn’t matter what laws are passed.

Acreage restrictions are a waste of ink, Fred. I don’t care if they’re running 3000 acres…if their f’ing mutts break through their lines and onto my 100/200/500 whatever number of acres, that’s wrong. And I and a lot of others are tired of it. That’s why dog hunting will not endure—times have changed and the doghunters are too stubborn or stupid to change with them. How about this: a $500 fine for each dog that comes on my land and automatic loss of hunting license for one year? That’s first offense. After that, $1000 and two years loss of license. After that, jail time and permanent loss of license.

And to the guy that says there’ll be mass genocide of walker dogs if doghunting is outlawed, all I can say is, bravo, sir. You just summed up and confirmed what most think of the typical doghunter.
