I am pretty mechanically inclined.
But the 2 things to give me the most problems are nail guns and a dammmn fishing reel
It’s ci4, and cleaned as I will get it. Need bearings replaced. Back together and better than it was… just barely…
That looks like a fun rainy day project.
Kind of how the afternoon went, minus the rain. Haha
The vid after your link is the one I needed. It’s a 4000B. Didnt explain exactly where this thing went, but I figured it out…
I have tried messing with a few reels in the past, but I was younger and impatient… Couple that with a few drinks/beers and I’ll turn a reel into…
Heck, even simple Daiwa old school BG spinning reels you need to mark the gears and return them in the exact same reference to the other gear(s) due to previous wear…
I do maintain my cuban yo-yo reel and have never had any issues with getting it back together or performance afterwards… Works like a champ!
We used older penn 6/0 The older ones were best because most of the parts were brass and heavy brass spools and where and still are completely rebuildable. I could almost fix one blindfolded. Everyone that I got my hands on got the ~ screws got replaced with +.
Still the workhorse of the ocean
Fred you remember these.
No y’all I wasn’t talking about the boobies.
I googled them they’re still in business.
That was a bit before my time! You can tell because the gal aint got no belly button ring. But yes I know about MoonEyes racing stuff!! I’ve had some stickers on a few things and bought some stuff from them, not in a long time though. They still sell a lot of vintage stuff for rat rods and customs. They still sell motorcycle stuff too. They got big into skate board bearings and stuff.
Unbelievable.$60⁰⁰ & change for a thermostat for my truck. I have not had a thermostat issue in over 30 years.
Fred.
Think I’m going to upgrade my tool boxes from 4 down to 1 big and maybe a small 1.
Looking for something to organize my flat wrenches instead of just throwing them in the drawer.
What do you use if anything?
Magnetic strips work but I likes nails in plywood
Other than screwdrivers tools that are magnetized aggravate the—++out of me
That is ridiculous for a thermostat. I’ve probably got a dozen to fit Pre 90 chevys. The most expensive racing high flow thermostat is usually only around 30ish… down to 6 bucks for the cheap ones.
On boxes, look at the new line of ICON toolboxes Harbor Freight has. Good priced and quality over their lower line boxes. A 54" Snap on /Matco/Mac box is around $5500, unless you can find a deal on a used one. My shop boxes are close to the same set up as my mobile stuff. On screwdrivers, my biggest thing is separating flat head from Philips. I like this style wrench holder for my boxes, and on the sockets as you can see I’ve got a variety of mess…
I see i could have got it online a little cheaper. But where they hose you is you have to buy the whole housing . And of course it’s plastic.
Yes snap-on prices are definitely unbelievable. I could buy something with a motor in it for that kind of money. Snap-on truck goes to the bodyshop & garage behind our office. Last thing I bought off the truck was a quarter inch drive swivel. I think it was around 22 bucks. Most all the snap-on tools I have I bought from a fellow that was moving. The snap-on man was going to repossess them.
I’m not looking to get a cabinet just the top box.
My biggest reason for the snap on brand is not just the quality, but the fact our guy comes out so far to visit me once a week and has never questioned a broken tool… even from obvious miss use.
If I were starting out fresh, I would never put myself in debt over a nicety/ prestedge tool for a job. You can find so many more tool brands close to the same quality now a days as snap on, maybe better, for much less. I think my favorite is still the old school proto hand tools. Had a lot stolen from me about 30 years ago. Napa had a fantastic line as well… New Britain tools(ended in 1990). I’ve got a few floating around.
Looking back, I think the big deal with Snap/Mac/ Matco on was and is the easy credit they allow mechanics.
My biggest tool purchases now are software updates and new software… The Shade Tree is a dying thing without factory software and training as older mechanical equipment is phased out.
Talk to the guys out back before about software. Boat mechanic and Auto mechanic shop. Auto said nearly $30,000. Boat around $4000.$#!t !!!
HD dealer hosed me today.
Some of the 2017 18 &19 had an issue sucking oil from the transmission into the primary. So the cure was to vent the primary. New 1s Factory vented now.
No recall. If you notice the problem they would install a kit. HD covered it.
For HD to cover it. Fresh oil change. 1000mi bring it back. Appointment this morning got me right in. I hung out till thay checked oil. Primary had 39 Oz. Specs 32. Service manager says I’ll call Harley get authorization. Call me. I’m gone. 20 minutes I get a phone call. Harley don’t want to cover it. Said he argued with them and they would do $100 deductible and I have to pay for the oil. They have already drained the oil.I tell them go ahead.
Also tell them to go and change the engine oil while they’re there.
So it ends up costing me $350.They did wash it. Not been washed in months. Almost didn’t recognize it.
So there went another 20 bucks. Felt l should tip the old dude. Vietnam vet shot twice … post story later .Almost forgot. I could have done it for about $110 and 2 hours labor.
