Recruiting Grades

This is not a dig. Seriously, just curious if you gamecock fans agree or disagree with this.

http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/south-carolina-football/grading-recruiting-situations-south-carolina-gamecocks/

SUM IT UP: While South Carolina rose up as an SEC and national contender in the first half of this decade, those 11-win seasons have borne out somewhat of an uptick in recruiting (South Carolina dropped to 36th nationally in 2008), that uptick hasn?t thrust them into the nation?s elite. Until Spurrier either picks an end date or chooses a head-coach-in-waiting (which he may or may not have tried to do with Will Muschamp this offseason), South Carolina may be stuck in a middle-of-the-pack holding pattern in the SEC.

Hmmm… I’m pretty sure Fishb8 will be along to call you a Hater soon…

I don’t have much issue with the article. I think it preaches to what I have said for a long time. 1 is that grading recruit and recruiting classes is mostly useless. 2nd is that the TV contracts are allowing a better playing field for the smaller schools.

Is it just a coincidence that your best recruiting class (2007) won the SEC East as seniors?

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

once again salty added useless input. Thanks for continuing the DB trend

You’re an idiot if you can’t see the writing on the wall.

Recruiting class rankings have a ton to do with a program’s success. It takes Jimmies and Joes to execute the X’s and O’s, as the talent gap widens between Sakkerliner and the other programs it competes with over the next few seasons, that’ll become apparent. And TV contracts don’t level the playing field with the big 5, that’s a bull**** cop out excuse for a program heading into the crapper. Northern Illinois gets air time but they aren’t a threat to most top tier teams. Sure, they may hang in there for a half but the athleticism of more gifted programs takes over and becomes apparent, ie recruiting.

Let me pose this question to you Fishbndenial. If Spurrier leads the chickens to a 4-8 or 5-7 record this year, will you support firing him? Or would you blindly follow him to worse records, lost recruiting and back into the ****hole Sakkerliner football finally crawled out of for a few years? How about another 6-6 season? Looking at the schedule, 6-6 is going to be a dang good year for that team.

It’s a (**() good thing recruiting rankings don’t mean anything because SC’s recruiting rankings are now on the (See More) page.

I don’t believe it Artavis Scott just scored again. …

As far as recruits remember these words. …Ray Ray.

You can have all the Ray Ray’s you want, but as Ohio State showed this year, games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage and that is why Clemson beat USC this year. I hate to see what happens if Clemson loses to this terrible South Carolina team this year after all of the months of smack that have been talked. Do I see it happening, way too early to tell, but I don’t think USC’s program is dead and buried just yet. Clemson lost a ton on defense and while they have some good players, they still lost a lot of veteran leadership on that side of the ball. Could be interesting.

Oh snap!

Man you guys are claiming Big Ten trophy cases too…I thought only Bama made coots an elite program. …man I need to pay better attention

The whole time I thought Oklahoma and OSU proved SEC wasn’t the only conference on earth but man was I wrong. …ole ball sacks program was actually getting more powerful as a result. …man I feel like a fool

Clemson has been recruiting well along the lines. This year’s OL will be much better than the last few. The DL has to be reworked but there is still a ton of experience on that side of the ball. One reason the defense was so good last year besides the senior leadership was the depth. The depth isn’t nearly as good this year but they should still be a solid unit. LB’s will be stout and the secondary will be nasty.

Recruiting. When Spurrier came to Sakkerliner, he recruited very well. Year in year out he beat Clemson. Then, Dabo had some success here and there and built on it. Now he’s winning that battle year after year. You can deny it, say it doesn’t mean anything or that coaching still trumps talent but, you’d be lying to yourself.

HarryD I am not even sure what you just said in those post. Salty I agree Dabo and Clemson are doing a great job with their program, but talent is only as good as what shows up on the field. The guys USC had last year on the front lines were not slouches according to the recruiting analyst. There are a few that were 4 stars that have not show up for whatever reason, could be coaching in some cases, could be kids being kids, not really sure. I do give an edge to Clemson right now, but we also know landscapes change very quickly. Time will tell.

I’d say that was 60% of the problem last year on the chicken D. Whammy is a position coach, not a DC. From what I saw watching the chickens, there wasn’t the talent or conditioning of previous years teams either. The chicken D has fallen off precipitously since EJ left. There just doesn’t seem to be the player development in recent years. They may be better this year, but it isn’t going to be a vast improvement.
