Taking some friends on a cruise from Beaufort tomorrow afternoon and was going to stop in Big Bay Creek and grab a bite to eat. Any recommendations on a good place to eat? Reservations needed? And how about docking?
Its been a while since I’ve been over that way, but docking used to be non-existent. We’d have to wait 'til they closed the fuel docks down for the night before we could tie up.
You can probably dock at Edisto Watersports and Tackle and eat at the Thirty Fish. I understand all they have are appetizers.
Dockside is a very good seafood restaurant, but I am not sure about their docking - call ahead and they can tell you.
The fish has changed there menu up a little and have burgers, hot dogs, wings, chicken tenders and samwiches fish tacos, and then your usual bar apps. Like edistocat said dockside will probably suit yaull better. Also sunset grill is closed if you were thinking about going there.
11th Street dockside is a real good seafood restaurant and it is close to the water like MarshMan said u can dock your boat and walk right in we do it every year!
The post office will be open again this fall. The peson who has onwed the building all the years that David and Phillip leased it is going to be involved in it this time. David isnt going to be at the OPO any more but Phillip Barton who was the head chef at the Old Post Office since the begining is going to be at the resturant this time around as well. As far as sunset goes there is no telling when that is going to be up and running again or who will be up there.
It has been my experience over the last couple years that many restaurants on Edisto Island suck, especially for large crowds. Sunset Grill had the worse service I have ever experienced two summers ago, it’s no surprise it’s gone. This past June we went to the pavilion restaurant. The hostess/waitress took 15 minutes just to come and ask us how many we had. We had 16 people and she said it would be at least a hour wait. I don’t know if she was having a bad night, but she was about the rudist person I have ever met. Well, there were four empty tables along the wall. We asked if we could just pull those together and she said no we couldn’t. She lost 16 customers that night who would have spent $35-45 a piece between food and drinks. We went to dockside and had a great supper. It’s amazing that on an small island were restaurants struggle to stay in business you have some that could care less. Sorry for my rant.
Best down there IMHO is Waterfront up on Jungle Rd. Can’t get there by boat but, always good food and service. Got two of my cousins daughters are waitress’s there. A good 'ol Clemson girl. I always liked it best too back when it was over the top of EdistoWaterSports. Was tight on room there though - much better in new place.
BS1 I know your frustration but don’t give up on them yet. WE had a good meal over there in July. I also agree w/ Jford on the Waterfront. we always have good food and a good time there. I want all of these restaurants to stay open so we do have some choices. I certainly hope the Sunset Grille will open again. They, at one time, had some pretty good food and you can’t beat the view. We’ll see. For the record, the Dockside does have more than liquid nourishment and can be quite good as well. can’t wait to see the Post office open again.

BS, Sunset Grille did have slow service. And I’ve never had good luck with the pavilion place-- no matter who owned it. However, I don’t mind b/c I have 4 people, and I don’t go to Edisto for a nice restaurant meal. But I can see where 16 people would be a freakin nightmare. I thought Sunset Grille had good food, and it was slow, but it is Edisto. I’m glad things are slow there. On another note, I miss the breakfast place that was right next to the Pig. But I can’t complain too much b/c the liquor store got bigger

I agree with you on Edisto moving at a slower pace, that’s one of the reasons we go as well. We usually cook at the house except one night during the week we stay there. We enjoy going out and giving the women a break with the cooking. I don’t expect Charleston service or quality, but I do expect people to be courteous. It was really amazing how rude the lady at the pavilion was to us. Maybe she was just haveing a bad day, I don’t know, but in the restaurant business, that kind of stuff will cost you your business.
They don’t call it Edislow for nothing, the Plantation Grill at the resort is very good, too!! It’s a good ways to walk from marina, but could be done if you cut through the back way
