SC CFB Recrutiting for 2015

both CU & USC are both in the top 5 right now.

USC @ #2
Clemson @ #4

Both programs are going to be on a roll for a long time.

I read where most of USC current recruits are having a tough time getting in.

Fishb8,

Where did you read that crap?

Where did you get those rankings? ESPN has Clemson #2 and SC #9.

I did see an article in the state paper last week about it, but couldn’t find a link to it.

More than a third of South Carolina?s 2014 football recruiting class is in jeopardy of not qualifying academically.
South Carolina signed 21 players last February, and eight members have yet to enroll at the SEC school, assistant Steve Spurrier Jr. told The State?s Josh Kendall.

Dang, we’ve got to focus more on those Mensa football players.

OK, I know that athletes sometimes get padded/easy classes and get help from professors, but not all of them.

Tigerfin I get the info from rivals who are much more respected than ESPN when it comes to CFB recruiting and ranking HS players.

Ok, they are still as meaningless as preseason rankings are, so I tend to take them with a grain of salt.

I pay little attention to all the recruiting reports. It is nice to see a full, talent laden class but, how many 4 or 5 stars have we all seen be less than impressive when they hit the field?

48% of 5 star HS players get drafted. so…not as many as one might think…but, recruiting is critical; powerhouses who finish in the top 15 every year also usually finish top 15 in recruiting year after year.

interesting stat.

its 44% actually . another interesting stat…16% of 5* guys are drafted in the first round.

These numbers mean that recruiting ranking really do matter. Are recruiting services 100 percent accurate? Of course not. It is nearly impossible to evaluate motivation, maturity and integrity (See former Florida State WR Fred Rouse). However, recruiting rankings are pretty good indicators of how a prospect will turn out. As the industry grows, fans of college football can only expect that these self-proclaimed talent evaluators to get even better at predicting the future. - See more at: http://athlonsports.com/nfl/nfl-stars#sthash.AlJF1nkI.dpuf

I 100% agree with this. Think about it like a stock portfolio. Picking an individual winner is really tough. But if you get 25 blue chips vs. 25 jokers, a whole lot of the time the 25 blue chips win out. Yeah, will a few of the jokers turn out to be better than the supposed blue chips? Well yeah. But in aggregate, one group will probably outperform the other.

It’s not a perfect analogy, but you get the idea – individuals might not pan out, but on a class by class basis of 25 people, rankings matter A LOT.

Surely no one on here thinks that Alabama’s run of dominance is just coincidental with their recruiting success?

In fact, just look at the good teams over the last 5 years and the recruiting rankings. The faces are almost all the same. Clemson and USC have both been recruiting very well – and have benefited from an up-tick in recent in-state talent – and it’s hard to argue the results on the field don’t prove that out.

Also, I think Shevlin is referencing recruiting for the 2015 class (rising high school seniors who will enroll in college next year). The academic problems with some of USC’s recruits are for guys that signed last February and graduated high school this year.

As to USC’s 2014 recruits, I think they knew a few weren’t getting in (Wideman, Sawyer come to mind). The three CBs and Blue will probably make it in this month. In short, yes, there were a few academic issues, but I think the extent is being way overblown. But hey, it’s the off season so AJC has to write about something, right?

As Sirspear points out, it is not always about the individual. The right chemistry of 3 and 4 stars can make NC team. If you have a team of 5 stars with attitudes…it will not end well. The coaches need to find the right talent and person, not just 5 stars…

12.87% of them tend to be right though. 96% of us are bored enough to debate this topic. 46% of those debating actually think they are winning. At least 1% really don’t care.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.
