I have not had a problem at the Pole Yard. This time of year, with gator season and shrimping going on, there are a lot of boats using the ramp. I think more people use the Pole Yard now since the ramp at McClellanville charges a fee to use it.
The size of shrimp around Cowpens is smaller than usual. Normally it is a mix of medium to large. This year there are more pee wees mixed in. But on the postive side, they have plenty of time to grow…
I have one. Why do people post where they are catching something? All you are doing is educating the people who sat on their azz all weekend waiting on reports before they go. I know people arent giving specific locations, but now certain general areas are going to be slammed with the weekend warriors.
“When i was young they tried to flush me down the toilet because they already knew i was the ****!”
“Run run run as fast as you can you cant catch me im the prodrive man!”

Unfortunately you are probably correct.
There are “fringe” shrimpers who were borderline - if the fishing is bad - stay home - if people are killing them - blast off to bulls bay.
I dont shrimp anywhere near bulls bay or cowpens. I shrimp in the harbor. I do find it ludicrous that someone would want to tell people where they are catching shrimp. I know i am right, i have several friends who are did the same as 90% of the people on this site. They sat and waited to see if the shrimping was good, then they called around for reports and checked this site. Why help out the lazy people?
Not everyone is lazy. Some of the less fortunate live hours away from the coast and it is very helpful to see what is happening as driving 4-5 hours round-trip for nothing is no fun and expensive. Furthermore, most of us “fringe” shrimpers (at least myself) are not really much of a threat with regards to denying any locals their fair share of shrimp. In a good year, I am lucky if I can make it down 2 - 3 times. Even luckier if I actually cooler out. Man, CF has taken a somewhat ugly turn with regards to folks helping each other out. Sorry if I seem leech like.

I have 3 theories. A. The more people out fishing with bait means that bait washes away and moves along with the shrimp. Hence, the more people the better. B. There are a lot more shrimp out there than there are limits on coolers. C. A lot of people cannot throw a good cast net and tire out before coolering out. Again, good for everyone else.
If you go out and see no boats, probably means no shrimp. Although I could be wrong.
I just look for where it changes from deep to the mud flats and put my poles on the flat. Closer to the ocean the better.

We all can learn!!from my limited experience I have discovered that shrimp travel in huge waves(like hundreds of thousands together) with the tides. When they are there ,a few in this horde will stop on your bait to feed. That is the time to get them!!!Also bigger shrimp are generally in deeper water.
You can set poles in an area shrimp pass through..and wait for them or try to find where they are....A very good method for finding them is to troll slowely and look for them to be jumping and trying to get away from the boat...note the tide and location try to set up in 6 to 8 feet of water close by,,,,,come back to this spot the next day about an hour before(tidewise) set the poles and soon you will succeed.
If you do not believe that these shrimp move together,,go out at night and when you find them movink a spotlight will show all! Good luck!
ps any tips are appreciated here..Oh and when you make a perfect circle over bait and haul a nice load say the word "SHAZAM" it does help

I saw no boats on Sunday night and caught a cooler. Saw no boats last night and caught a cooler
DF it appears to me that some folks just don’t like helping others, it’s in their nature probably something to do with the way they were raised and nothing we can say or do will change it. Now why they feel it necessary to talk about other folks offering help I just plain don’t understand. Don’t let the narrow minded actions of a few sour you on the whole site. The saying that they don’t have to read the site works both ways, I just don’t read their post. When I see their handle I just skip it. I don’t have time for them. Good luck this season…
the old game show “Brag, Btch, or BullSht” is back! which one will it be?

Heck, it’s worse than that. They don’t like seeing people helping other people, or even reading about it. Sad.

Wow, it got ugly early this year. I coolered out last year off the end of a dock between Jeremy Creek and 5 fathom on the ICW. But that was last year. I also got a full cooler outside the white banks. PM me and I will give you everyone elses secret honey hole that a small few of the billions of shrimp that are in the bay and the harbor can be found. Plenty o Shrimp to share. I’m still stuck on the hill in Greenville but I can assure you that we will be in BB or maybe the secret hole by the crab banks or maybe Winyah. I will share with all that will listen. They helped me when I first started shrimping. I will even tell you to add wet catfood to your baitbinder for even better results. You can’t eat them all and any more than you need to feed your family and friends is stealing from your kids.
it is a shame that we have people such as that on the site but; then again that is just a very small sampling of the people on here. i found this site many years ago and it has been a blessing and i have passed it on many times. i have also made some good friends and aquaintenances on here. i will give away my spot anytime after i am finished. there are plenty shrimp for everybody. like dfreedom. we live 120-140 miles away. we cannot go every night like poleyard or some others do so it is a help to us to know if it is even worth coming down. anybody want to come to lake murray and catch a mess of stripers or crappie just holler and i will give you the co-ordinates. cannot promise that you will catch them but at least you got a shot. remember ; the more you give will come back in multitudes. happy shrimping.
