Shrimp reports?

It is way over my head! This particular thread is for"SHRIMPING REPORTS" People disrespect you by coming close to your poles.Maybe a little “shrimprage” occasionally would stop that.I have had them drive right up and ask how we are doing,or just gawk. But most folks respect you.
I have several spots that almost always produce nice reds and 50 feet either side gets nothing…these type spots are my secret…For shrimp there are locations where the shrimp pass by repeatedly…
Nothing wrong with helping people and especially newcomers.I understand not giving away your honey holes. There is a lot of pride involved with being able to cooler out.Don’t be so selfish, just be a little more challenged.
this reply is for our friend "TEL"

Oh yeah, because every moron in a boat is from out of town. Man, you are a real piece of work. Why don’t you start your own fishing website and then you can share info with yourself since the rest of us aren’t worthy. It is YOU that is missing the point. I feel sorry for you. And yes, I know, you didn’t ask me to but, this one’s on me.

tel said that 30 years ago they could cooler inside and hour . i can do that now when we find them but correct me if i am wrong but we did not have shrimp baiting 30 years ago. tel needs to lighten up. there is plenty of shrimp for everybody and i am sure that he never caused a wake with his boat. now that makes two perfect men that i have heard of. the other is watching over all of us. happy; happy; happy.

Tell you what - I think some of the people that clicked into the thread titled “Shrimp Reports” might have actually wanted to hear some instead of 5 pages of flames… I’ll start a new thread and maybe some folks can put actual reports on there?

COOLBREEZE…We did plenty of shrimp baiting 30 years ago. There were no limits or laws back then. It all began when people started shooting at each other in the harbor.

Hey ya’ll…new here…just wanted to say “Hi” and let ya know this site is the bomb!! My hubbie and I chose our handle jokingly because we die laughing at those tuna guys and certainly relate to aggravation of non-courteous boaters and fisherman. Although we certainly r not those people, we do have the utmost respect for everyone ON the water and everything IN the water…we just thought the handle was cute.
Now to the point… just wanted to give a hats off to the comments of people like Jeeporphan and others who are not afraid to share intel and Gods’ bounty as well!! See we are just ole dirt farmers from MO and did not have the priveledge or honor to b so close to all of this awesomeness that the ocean has to offer. We have lived here over 20 years now with only an occasional visit to the beach for years…
After our daughter passed away at he age of 19 from leukemia 12 years ago, shrimping and coastal fishing has become an awesome and theraputical hobby my husband and I were blessed to have been introduced to. We love and respect everything about the ocean.
Only reason I’m sharing all this is because like I said, we r new
to this site and I think most of your comments are so cool and so helpful to people who weren’t raised near the ocean like us. We are learning all the time…We are chomping at the bit to get down there this year because we r for the time being, a few hours away as well, All of your comments help keep us informed… So from “The Googans”, a great big "Thanks and "full coolers to ya!!’

Greetings and welcome

we need to meet up anyway. might could share a shrimping trip a time or two. never hurts to split cost. i got a 19’ seapro cc 115/4strk yammy that works just fine and knows its’ way around bulls bay.

Would love to. Bulls Bay is my Achilles heel. I have almost no experience there and the place kinda scares me to tell you the truth. My net throwing for this year is over, though. I had an accident about 6 weeks ago, and it has left me with very painful right shoulder. Probably gonna need surgery (MRI scheduled). But I can drive a boat, drink beer, and yell at the net thrower. How’s that?

Always wondered who and where it started.

Had a commercial shrimper on HHI tell me he started it on Calibogue Sound, also told me they used to rinse Skrimp in a Baking Soda solution to rid Skrimp of any Fish Meal taste.

FWIW

Dang it Doug…how do you feal now??

Went yesterday (Saturday Sept 21) and put up 20 cleaned quarts. The difference this time was the size. Mostly large, (we culled a lot of mediums out) and the jumbos are starting to scatter in. That makes 64 cleaned qts (90lbs) in three trips this season. Yes sir.

shrimp baiting has been around forever, we used to use dog food and pluff mud way before people started pitching and selling clay and fishmeal… and everyone either used bamboo or pvc pipe, there were no diameter limits and no one was stupid enough to used metal bolted to the bottom of pvc pipe like so many do now… once you break it, and so many do, you’re leaving metal piping on the bottom for boats to get ruined on… some people are even proud of their bolton jobs, tell that to the guy that has the expensive repair…

'bout time

you guys are probably right about shrimping 30 years ago. i guess i was referring to the licensed shrimping. i can admit my bad. also; baitball; glad you are getting them. hope to get down there soon. got to save up. it is expensive coming from lexington. need to find somebody to share expenses. do not think that will work with my son. ha ha

I know back in the late 70’s we used to shrimp the harbor and BB. We would fill as many coolers as the boat would hold any time we went. also remember we used to leave our poles out all weekend so we could come back each night. Good times.

That’s right. One idiot pulled a gun on an undercover game warden in the harbour. They would have concrete mixers mixing up the bait at remleys point. That’s when we started going to the bay. At that time it was leagle to pull the nets throught the bay,my father in-law would show me where the flats where and the sand bars and how to tell the deep water from the shalows. We actually used rabbit food and mud. There would sometimes be two boats and if it was three, it was a crowd, but we shared verything we had, bait, ice, beer, and if my brother waqs there fried chicken. I was putting poles out onje year and a guy comes up and tells me I am in his spot and I needed to move, he was seriouse. I told him it was Gods ocean and if he didn’t leave I was going to feed him my boat paddle. I went to the north end Sat. because I didn’t have anything else to do. It looked like a giant game of pick up sticks, poles everywhere. I had to run through three sets to get out. So you guys win, you won’t see me out there on the week end, it just isn’t worth it, it is supposed to be fun.

Wow! Thanks for the pm Tel. I don’t believe I have ever been called a coward. I suppose I could go on about my military career and the cowardly things I have done. I won’t! I’ll let you have your cowardly pm. I suppose I will let you win. You have solidified my opinion that you are an ass. You sir are much like a liberal. It’s all about what you think not the facts. Give a man a fish feed him for the day. Teach a man to fish feed him for a lifetime. I’m so sorry your private puddle of the earth is being used by others that have paid their fees and license fees. Maybe you can get in your private helicopter and save them when the weather turns bad. Thank God for the Coast Guard and Tel! they will have a fight and soon, he will come save you as he jumps out of his private helicopter and saves the shrimp spots. Be careful that you don’t shrimp in any of the very gray area that Creekgirl pointed out. It’s private property that belongs to Tel. I suggest we all leave the Bay Area find his yard, piss a big ole puddle, and shrimp there. Maybe he will post a map or give us the numbers how to get there.

I fought for the right for Tel to be an ass. Judging at your screen name you did as well.

Terry, I generally don’t like to give the prick the pleasure. However, you win! I will remind you that karma is one hell of a ***** tho. Good luck selling your real estate there. Kinda hard to sell something that you think should be kept a secret. Good luck to you this season I hope that you catch all you and your family can eat. No more no less. When I come to the bay in a few weeks that is all that I will take, no more no less. If I find a good area for me I will let others know where they are. Isn’t that the idea? Oh wait, you win your butt is blacker as my grandmother would say.

No jeep, you win. I’m done here. It is just to hard to type what I am trying to say, it would be easier face to face. I just don’t write as well as most folks, and don’t have time to spell out every detail. Like I said, this is supposed to be fun, not a contact sport.
