South Carolina v. Mizzou

Any thoughts? Crickets so far.

Terrible play by the gamecocks and equally poor officiating that influenced the game early on. I really don’t think it mattered in the end, they are just not a good football team and would have lost with perfect officiating. They are really lacking leadership on the field. Years past there were leaders out there you could count on to make big plays.

Leadership starts at the top Andy. It’s missing everywhere on that team in every facet. No need to sugarcoat it or beat around the bush, SOS has to go or the damage my be irreparable, like the pair of UT’s out there. If he won’t retire/resign, Tanner has to fire him. You’re looking at 5-7 at best, 4-8 is likely.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

?We?re not the only team in America that?s 2-3. There?s a lot of us out there,? Spurrier said. ?LSU?s coming to town, a very big, physical team that will really present a challenge for us. But hopefully we can give out players a plan to be successful, and work our tails off this week.?

Question: Why weren’t they working their tails off before now?

Looking forward to playing currently ranked #6,7,9 and 11 before the season ends

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

That Mizzou freshman QB has a cannon.

When every team completes 85% of their passes…The Cocks turn any QB into a Heisman contender.

Key West 1720 115 HP Johnson Saltwater.

Coaching, coaching, coaching.
on the offensive side, you have a freshman QB. he is a read-option kinda QB. I dont think there was 1 read-option play. and there were no easy passes to get him in the game. Terrible coaching decisions.
On Defense, you have freshman QB with his 1st start. yet you rarely blitz. and play 10 yards off the ball. never disguise your coverage. Terrible coaching.
The simple thing would have been to send an extra man often, bump the receivers at the line (with a 2 safety cover) and force the young QB to make a fast throw.

And would be surprised if USC win 4 games at this point.

On leadership, they are young, but they lack that high energy pump the team up type person.

How does coaching go from so epically amazing best in the universe to so terrible?

So when is the coaching change coming? It is very rare to have a program build then collapse in such a short period of time under the same HC. Tanner has a lot to ponder.

In my opinion this boils down to recruiting. I think the reason you see the coaching look so poorly is that they do not have the confidence in the personnel they have on the field to make many changes. I read a great article that I cannot put my hands on at the moment that showed just how dominate Clemson’s recruiting is within the state. When Carolina was winning they were also winning the battle for our top in-state talent. They have dropped the ball on this front and have spent very little resources in this department. I am not sure that when they got hot they just assumed that they could ride that wave on the recruiting front and did not make the effort that they had in previous years. Spurrier Jr. is supposed to be the Florida recruiting expert and link, that is definitely not working out. This is why I have come to the conclusion that a change is needed.

^^^^^^^^^ Very well said.

wasn’t Beamers kid the recruit coordinator when they won in-state?

I think it is coaching. there is talent there, but if you can not refine/mold/harness that talent, you have no chance.

Look at the timeline where USC’s recruiting of in-state kids was strongest. You had a mid-season firing of Boutdone, a WR coach promoted to HC and a lot of uncertainty surrounding Clemson at the time. Recruits that were heavy leans to Clemson were no longer there, that first class of Dabo’s was small and untalented whereas Sakkerliner had Spurrier giving them name recognition. He got to ride that without a lot of work getting those kids for a few years. In the meantime, Dabo was beating the bushes, working his ass off in GA and FLA bringing in big recruits.

The talent started to turn, good coaches were hired and kids started buying in. The recruiting philosophy hasn’t changed at either school, Dabo and his staff work their butts off to get these kids, Sakkerliner is still relying on Spurrier’s name to bring them in. Dabo sits down with mom and dad in their living room and assures them he’ll do what it takes to make sure their kid gets an education, stays out of trouble (yeah, he’s had more than his share that couldn’t) and become good men with a shot at the NFL. Spurrier meets the parents when they come to campus for official visits. Which coach do you want your kid playing for?

It is coaching, it is also recruiting and finally it is leadership. SOS has slowed down and won’t/can’t put in the work to do what is needed in today’s CFB to get those kids. He needed to be put out to pasture last year, I remember saying that on here. I also said you’d have a bad season. Guess what, it won’t get any better for the foreseeable future and you’ll spend $4 million on a HC for a terrible product on the field. Anytime you look for JUCO players to come in and fill holes after a HOF coach is there for 10yrs, you have serious issues. And, the longer he stays, the more damage is done and the further the program falls.

Yeah, but you said the same thing through the 11-2 seasons…

They can chime in and deny it. I posted this same thing almost verbatim after SOS made the few more years comment. They scoffed at the chickens sucking again at that time, they know it’s right though. Unfortunately, they sort of boxed themselves into a corner with the Spurrier worship, 90’ Fatheads and begging him to stay. Whatever happens to get rid of him and bring new blood in has to look like it’s his idea or they continue to pay $4 million for him to play golf during recruiting season. No matter which way it happens, Sakkerliner is in year two of a decade or more of suck.

He has said tons of crap that do not pan out (Stoudt is better than Boyd). Even a blind squirrel finds a nut.
