I am going to saint Helena Saturday, to early? I haven’t fished for them in 35 years, any pointers would be greatly appreciated
Probably a little early due to the cold spring but you never know. There are a number of ways to fish for them. Do a search and you will come up with lots of advice and maybe a few exaggerations. Be sure to post pics and brag a lot if you get one of the first this season.
I just searched “cobia tips” in the Beaufort/HH section and got 2 pages.

Or don’t tell anybody you caught them, go back and enjoy catching them until everybody else figures out they showed up. The guys in Florida have it figured out and can make it a week or two before somebody posts on them and the masses head down.
But feel free to send me a PM and tell me! Haha good luck

I will be on the river Saturday.Call me if you want the scoop over my way 8436147103
After hearing of one caught off pier on Saturday. I took the day off from work to give it a try Monday. In the water at 8 and new live well made and installed by wildlifesc full of greenies by 9. Bam cobia in the boat by 10. Nice fat 38 incher on ice. Fished until dark with nothing else but a few sharks. Snuck out late Thursday and as soon as we set anchor we sat back and watched boat next to us bring in what looked like 40 incher. No luck for us but did catch 40 inch redfish on a live frisky greenie right before dark along with some nice sized blacktips.

Water is still a little chilly, I would wait about a month or so…
In real news, DNR checked everybody they saw so be sure you are up to date on everything.
And at low tide, not much water(18") at the bridge ramp.
Sorry Cracker Larry and Bennetmp. I couldn’t help myself.

I hope your comment about water being chilly and waiting another month wasn’t serious…

Haha worth a shot.
Went out yesterday and tried but no luck. Water temp near the bridge was 70 on the outgoing tide.
went saturday, fished combahee bank, lost a few big fish (sharks) i guess. caught a small whiting:frowning_face:
then the motor quit, water in the gas
while i was draining the water out of my tank into my minnow bucket the incoming tide and wind blew me up on that big mud flat between the banks and the inter coastal. but luckily i was sitting on the mud when that (**() wave came over the stern and filled the back of my boat with water, bailed water out of boat, walked across the mud dragging boat, got motor started and had to fight the “tide change waves” all the way back to fields point, but hey i caught a fish…

I sure am hearing a lot of stories about H2O getting is gas tanks. It’s happened to me now twice in a year on 2 different boats. Surprised you were able to get the motor going again.

Didn’t get any offers of someone wanting jump on board of my boat to Cobia fish in a couple weeks, so looks like I will be solo.
Question, I will be staying at Hunting Island for a week. Which would be the best/easiest place to go. Broad River, or Combahee/St Helena?
Never put in at either place. Only put in at the ramp at Hunting and fished that sound before. Or is it just as likely to catch one around the Fripp Island bridge?
Thanks!
