What I Just Ate

I used to go with some friends to Hatteras island in October. We would catch 20 lb bluefish Doormat flounder . Huge black drum 40” reds occasional striped bass and buckets full of big spots. Slept in tents. Drive on the beach looking for slews. We caught bait in Pamlico sound We fished often within sight of the lighthouse. The weather there changes quickly and the wind blows hard. I’m sure that things have changed long since. Probably no fires ir camping on the beach. And there might be hotels there now Idk. But we always caught more than we could carry

We fish out in front of a house at Emerald Isle, but also take boats to Shark Island. My hand on the bible, it’s one of the fishiest places I have ever been.

There are some youtubes out there of people catching fish here if you are interested, but this is an overview of one of my very top favorite places I’ve ever caught a fish.

Plus its smack dab in the middle of the “Graveyard of the Atlantic”, so theres that.

Googled it and this is what came up… I thought you were funnin us all.

That water looks so clear! You taken boat/s? That area looks amazing, but I’d want to have the latest mapping software in my sonar. Looks like you could go deep to shallow in a hurry.

Hopefully pics to follow.

Not that shark island, this one is at the tit end of cape lookout beyond and south of the shackleford banks

No reliable charts in that slop, you have to read the water as it changes often, like even on your way back out. It’s not for the faint of heart I don’t suppose, but on a nice day it’s not that bad and once you are on the leeward side in that eddy you are fine. But yeah, sometimes there are pucker marks on the seat cushions.

That’s why I said i thought you were messing with us… N.C. Barrier Islands looks pretty cool. Never been. Is it pretty laid back or getting commercialized like most areas in the Keys and such?

The drive to parts are built up and yankee-fied. But like your area, if you have a boat in places like that an abundance of elbow room can be had.

spare tire, spare hub… have boat will travel. My sense of adventure in untraveled waters is just not what it used to be. I think I’d want to do it with a group. I think my next travel with boat will be Lake Jocassee. Gonna be enough stress in the trip, I don’t want it on the water!

Fred. I think you would really enjoy lake jocassee. The fall when the leaves are changing it’s just gorgeous.
And of course you got to check out the waterfalls.
The Parks have cabins you can rent they’re pretty cheap.

I normally wouldn’t get meatloaf from the greasy spoon. But everyone was telling me how good it is.
It was okay nothing to write home about. Definitely a unique flavor maybe some type of barbecue sauce in it. But the sweet potato crumble as they call it was real good.

I’d be willing to bet the Cabins on Lake Jocassee are already booked out for a couple of years, in the fall.

Lake jocasie is probably the cleanest lake water in the USA. It’s back waters are on the eastern continental divide with virtually no development up stream. Crystal clear

*Reel time report

Outstanding, nothing better than chicken of the ditch I say.

Dang it! That’s just plain cruel!

I smell it but can’t get a taste

Enjoy looks mighty fine

Sending the kitchen smell your way, Bay… time to dig in!
