We were coming into the 170 landing the other day and there was an elderly man in an aluminum boat struggling with his motor. The wind and waves washed him up on the sand bar near the dock. We watched 3 boats go right by him without asking him if he needed help.
It was these kind of people that made me leave HHI. I hope that the same thing is not happening to Beaufort.
If you are reading this and you were one of those people then shame on you!!!
it’s sad how people are these days. i’ve been in his position before. We beached my boat at the mouth of station creek, and went for a walk. misjudged the time, and got back a little too late. A few boats that were headed out to deeper water seemed to think we were giving a friendly wave at them. We ended up not being able to get the boat off the bottom on the outgoing tide, and ended up spending 11 hours on the beach across from Ted Turner’s place. I rigged up some crab lines and we ended up taking home a bunch of blue crab, so it wasn’t a “total” bust of a day, but still…
It seems to be like that everywhere. Look around as you drive everyday. Try to get someone to let you into traffic. They almost act like it is a badge of honor to keep you out. It ain’t just Yankmees anymore, we seem to be losing our civility.

Kind of off subject but I just spent the last weekend in WV getting certified for Level II Tree Canopy and Ziplines in preparation for the 2013 Jamboree being held in WV next year at the new Bechtel Scout Reservation. Want to see what BSA is up to for this new site?? Take a look at this link: https://summit.scouting.org/en/Jamboree2013/Pages/default.aspx
BUT this also means that my time in Beaufort this year and next is going to be severely decreased…but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for our youth!!
The first and last time I needed to help someone on the water was Capt. Curt! (We had never met before)
I actually saw a guy stuck in the mud at the sands after I just barely got in at a negative low tide a few weeks back. Two of us other boaters offered to throw him a rope and pull him into deeper water but he stubbornly refused and got into the water to physically push himself free instead.
Yea those people that passed him without offering to help must be from NOHIO and no I did not spell that wrong,Just the other day I had a boat behind me couple hundred yards from landing that kept cutting off so I slowed down, let him pass me before we got to the landing,I could have been an a**h and just hauled in to landing and loaded and left but I stopped and asked them if they were going to make it and they said yea so I still waited til they got loaded before I did, then they asked me if I needed help loading, what goes around comes around. They were locals.I do not understand the attitude of the northerns, hold the door for them at the store and they will give you the dirtiest look like what the hell do you want?

You are supposed to start sentences with capital letters. You should try worrying about yourself first before you go calling other people morons jackass!
Not everyone sucks. 2 years ago my friends got stuck in a creek mouth when the tide rushed out, leaving them high and dry and they were left to wait out the tide change. While waiting, someone came by and gave them a 12 pack of beer.
I guess he did suck a little, because they had to wade out to his boat to get the beer.

well sometimes it’s just funny to watch morons but eventually I’ll help. A couple weeks ago at the Laurel Bay boat ramp(Base housing) 2 rental boats from the Air Station, were both grounded on the mud. The boat occupants were trying to power their way off the mud by using the motor. They were both shooting mud about 30 feet in the air. I just sat there and watched and laugh with my wife. So after about 10 minutes of them going nowhere. I got out of my boat, walked over to them and told them to get out of both boats and to push. One guy had on cowboy boots and hats(O.K. fishing attire in his neck of the woods) and got out to push. So after pushing and shoving we got one boat out. The next boat a guy had no shoes on. I told him he should wear something because the oyster will jack you up. He said " I’ll be ok." So not a minute later he cuts his foot real bad on an oyster but we got the boat off the mud and they went where ever they had plan. So some people get themselves in these situations but i’ll offer help to anyone who i think is in trouble. Because one day I might be that " Moron"
Any one at any time can get into trouble…just think how much better it is now with GPS mapping to navigate through all the skinny water in the Beaufort area, and still people will get stuck, myself included. I have been helped and have helped others and will always do so…I was born up north but lived most of my life down south. “A” holes are not entirely from up north, I’ve seen a few down south too. Don’t assume because of an accent someone is an “A” hole…
