Fournette and McCaffrey sitting out bowl games

I think you better spell it out in Garnet and Black. He can’t read those Orange words.

Well there certainly aren’t any quitters here.

The Coots would’ve supported DW sitting out for the Palmetto Bowl…

Which bowl it is DOES NOT matter. this is a team sport supported by the fans and you were given a scholarship to play. so play.

I completely disagree with those of you(seems to only be CU fans) that believe only the players on the playoff teams care about the games. that only the top 4 teams have personal pride. That is just bias BS.

Ok I'm sorry but this must have flown over your head so we'll get down to crayons here:
  1. Yes it’s selfish, because they’re looking out for the rest of their lives vs a meaningless bowl game. Selfish doesn’t always equal bad.

  2. You seem to be hung up on the personal pride thing. Nobody said only playoff teams have personal pride, that was my argument about DW specifically. Now, purely based on the fact they’ve chosen not to play, I would say that both McCaffrey and Fournette do not feel enough personal pride winning these bowl games to risk an injury and ruin their career. Stop and think about that before you start rampage replying. They’ve been presented with two options and chose one. One side has personal pride, the other has a career. They chose the latter. This is a fact.

  1. again it maybe be meaningless to you…only because your team is in the playoff. But I’m sure it is not meaningless to the senior playing in his last game, or the freshman playing in his first. If these games mean nothing…why are there 78 teams dre

Figured we’d appreciate this in light of b8 asking the same (**() question over and over and over again.

i dont see how that is relevant. Coaches have a contract. that contract might afford the option to leave, quit, retire.
coaches get new jobs all the time…some leave immediately, so stick around.

It’s called “satire.” You know, making light of a stupid situation. Put down the keyboard, and step away.

Back to the original subjects.

  1. The playoff system doesn’t cheapen other bowls. The shear number of bowls cheapens the honor of making a bowl. Most all bowls used to be prestigious. It’s all about the money.
  2. An insurance policy will never happen, and it wouldn’t equal anything close to NFL pay.
  3. College athletes should be able to make royalties from retail sales of the use of their names or likenesses. What is happening now is pure exploitation .

Are Tim Duncan and Lebron James quitters and turned their back on their team because they sat out to rest for the playoffs. Is Aaron Rodgers? The Colts?

Sorry, but the number of athletes that have the drive to play through anything like Brett Favre, Tom Brady, and Jordan are either gone, or few and far between. This generation of sports icons have a different mindset.

I think the shift has a little to do with injuries. Sports injuries are way up on all sports, and also due to the “me first” mindset of so many people today. If the Conference leaders, ADs, and coaches didn’t share this selfish mindset and greedy outlook, I would come down harder on these kids for this decision. But you can’t hold a 20 year old to a higher standard than the folks mentoring and shaping them.

They rested for the good of their team. The two we are talking about are not trying to help their team at all. You gonna play that one or you want a mulligan?

What if the coaching staff and entire team are standing proudly behind the particular player’s decision? It may not change anyone’s stance on him being a quitter, but if you force him to play, it’s up to him to give it 100% and not quit on any play. I suppose he would be honoring his “contract”, but does anyone want to see him play half ass? These bowl games (other than the playoffs) have been characterized as exhibition games by most analysts. It seems the NCAA has crapped their own nest. They have produced all these bowl games for the money, but who wants to watch them when the star players are sitting out?

Anyone see the article about the NFL player that said if nominated he would not play in the pro bowl this year seeing as how the last pro bowl he was in he tore up his ankle and has been hobbled ever since?
Clowney and Beasley both made their first pro bowl, I wonder if Clowney sits out?

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

I’ll bite on this. You still have the fans to think about. You know, the people who are the reason those players and coaches are there to begin with. Heaven forbid people start thinking about who actually butters their bread. Also, what if the entire staff and team aren’t behind it? Where do you draw the line, half the team? Most coaches? Serious questions.

Or maybe they’ll play beach football again. That has to be safer right? Shifting turf, no pads.

And he wasn’t selected, so he won’t have to make that decision.

It is definitely all about the fans. That was my point. When they start getting frustrated , changes need to happen when it equals less money. If the entire team and coaches aren’t behind the decision, then you have the potential for major internal problems.

since its all about the fans…how many fans want to see their team play without the best players on the field…

If you are a true fan, and not overly sensitive, then you wouldn’t really care that one player is missing from your team. Next man up. Pull for your team, be happy you are there and move on. Pretty weak for a grown person to start crying and moaning because a RB didn’t show up.

I agree about just too many bowl games. At the end of the day, it’s hard to get excited when every 6 win team gets to play in some sort of Championship. I think the playoff system just compounded something that was already there.
